What's the likelihood of Autozone giving you two broken parts in a row?
(This is related to my MAF sensor post, but I wanted to ask it separately.)
I had an issue and a mechanic told me my MAF sensor was bad so I replaced it with an Autozone part. I still had the issue. Another mechanic told me that the new MAF sensor was broken and told me to get a warranty replacement. I did and am still having the issue. I'm tending toward believing the MAF sensor never was the problem, but just in case, I should ask if there is any likelihood that Autozone had given me two bad MAF sensors in a row. Does that ever happen?
I feel weird going in there and asking for another warranty replacement. If the parts I'm swapping aren't actually broken, they might think I'm trying to pull something nefarious.
Very likely. I have had 3 steering racks in a row bad from Napa. 4 starters in a row from Autozone. Believe it or not some of those they sell are remanufactured sensors. Don’t know what kind of car you have but make sure you get new, and go with something like Denso, NGK, or OEM. Don’t buy the autoparts store brand on electronic parts. Stay away from their Duralast brand. If you have a GM product they carry AC Delco.
Geez. Well that would explain the fingerprints on the last one I got. The girl said that the people in the warehouse just had dirty hands and they come that way sometimes. I assumed it was because someone with dirty hands opened up the box to check that it was the right part or something, not that it wasn't brand new. The box wasn't even new. That should've been a clue.
This part takes a day to be delivered if you get there early enough, so if I keep swapping them to get to a working one, it's at least a day between. I feel like I oughta talk to a manager to let them know that I'm going to keep doing swaps until my car works. Maybe that's what the lifetime warranty was intended for. 😆
... It's a 1995 Ford Windstar and it's too late on not getting Duralast. 🙁
They can take it back and put the money towards a new different branded part.
All too likely these days. The quality of even formerly good brands has gone into the toilet with production shifted to China, India, and Mexico. Best to stick with OEM whenever possible. There are sites that sell OEM parts at below dealer prices.
This is a common occurrence. The store will get ten of the same item from the same place and they're all bad. Smart of you to get the Limited Lifetime Warranty. I once had a radiator from AutoZone that I took back 4 times because they all leaked at a bad seam. Didn't bother me at all.
