hi scotty,

so I've got a coworker thats looking to get a brand new 2025 truck next year. ive been watching alot of your videos, and basically from the sum of what ive heard you say is this. ford has lost their quality control in the last ten years, rivian is probably gonna go bust, gm is junk, nissan titans are good but have been discontinued, toyota used to be good, but theyve gotten rid of their v8 for a turbocharged v6, ram trucks are engineered by Italians and should be stayed away from, hondas are good for people who already have a bunch of hondas and just want to fill out their collection.

im not sure where that leaves us for good trucks, and my coworker is absolutely set on buying new. what are your thoughts?

If I was in the market, and absolutely needed a new pickup I would go with a Tundra (even though I don't like 6 cylinders or forced induction).

The F150 5.0 would be a close second.

If I was looking for a heavy duty, I would buy a F250 followed by a Chevy 2500 (gas engines).

If I wanted a smaller pickup, I would go with a Tacoma (even though they are being made in Mexico).

The Honda Ridgeline would be a close second.

I would not consider any domestic small truck.

You correctly surmise that they all have flaws. There is not one that is clearly superior*.
So the answer depends on:

  1. intended use (towing weight, commute distance, etc)
  2. discounts and relative sales price
  3. local dealer ethics

I personally have a 2022 GMC diesel. I maintain on ‘er pretty aggressively and haven’t had any problems. Only at 50,000 miles, but most of that has been towing.

* the ridgeline has the fewest flaws. But it’s really more of an SUV than a truck.

he said he does a ton of towing/going over low maintenance roads, which means ridgelines are out of the question. im completely stumped on which one is the lesser of evils

Towing rules out all the mid sizers. Less than 6-8000 pounds towing, I’d get the Tundra or the GM 3.0 Duramax. More than that and I’d get a heavy duty truck (which one is a tough call)

im not sure how much a 5th wheel weighs, but he pulls that, and then a boat behind that

From what I can gather, the GMC Sierra or Chevy Silverado 2500 HD would be ok.

yeah but from what scotty says, dont touch gm with a ten foot pole, especially the new ones, bc they have electrical issues, quality control issues, and they don't stand by their products so if something goes wrong, good luck getting it fixed on warranty
