I was wondering what I needed to do I just got my 1986 ford f150 XL with 160,000 miles on it running after sitting for 4 years. The transmission is shifting rough and I’ve heard it will do that until it gets everything flowing like normal. But what are some more things I should do after it sitting for so long?

There are other lists in this forum that relate to this question. It may be worth a search.

From the top of my head.

Get rid of the old fuel. Put in some fresh fuel.

Change the oil.

Possibly change the transmission fluid.***

Check the brakes and brake fluid. Change if necessary.

Change the coolant.

Examen and change spark plugs if necessary.

Examen and change belts / chains if necessary.

Examen and change hoses if necessary.

It's not supposed to do that. Before I bought my '79 Pontiac, it sat for over 5 years, and it still runs and drives perfectly fine. Even the day I bought it. There are two cables running to your throttle body, one goes from the gas pedal to the throttle body, the other goes from the throttle body to the transmission. The transmission must know the position of the throttle so it can shift without ruining the transmission. Check this cable, unfortunately I don't remember what it's called at the moment.

Throttle Valve Cable

I thought it was that, but TV cable just felt wrong for some reason, lol.
