I was just given a used 1994 Nissan Sentra with 137k miles, the car was sitting for a while and we got a battery and it starts and runs, but the idle seems a bit rough, and the rpm jumps when accelerating sometimes . I wasn’t too sure where to start with this car. I would gladly take suggestions on where to start and if anyone has an idea about the rough idle

How long has it been sitting? Sounds like the fuel system needs a good cleaning. Also wouldn't surprise me if some of the 29-year-old hoses are shot and it has vacuum leaks.
I asked, 6 months to a year the car sat before we put a battery in a cranked and ran the car a bit.
