But no honestly 1000 is not much look around for ANY car that is in good mechanical condition but not so much as cosmetic condition. Definetly use craigslist by owner. older Toyota prefered.

With $1000 bucks your options are limited so forget anything that's cool.

On your budget look for an old Buick from the late 1980's to mid 1990's with the 3800 V6 in it.

Many were "old people cars" and you can still find some which were bought new by 50 year old people in 1990 and now at 81 years old they selling them because they can't drive anymore.

That engine was one of the best V6's ever made and many of the original owners have been retired for the past 15 years and didn't rack-up many miles on them.

You still see those things being sold by the original owners with 70,000 miles on them and garage kept for just a little more money than you have now.

It's interesting about these cars. It seems that when they're being sold by a private owner, probably the owner's "kid" who is 55 years old and is glad to see mom giving up driving, he just sees a 30 year old vehicle and puts it up for sale cheap.

You go to a used car dealer and they price them much higher because they understand the quality and durability of the cars.

You may find a $1000 car, but then you probably have to spend 2 to 3 times of what you paid just for the repairs. You better off spending more money at the beginning.

I would save some money up and get a better condition car (if any) for 2500 or so. $1000 gets you almost nothing. Or you could take my electric scooter idea from before.

Any old GM with the 3800 engine, the 3.1 is Also decent in the Buick century.

I would first look for a 90s corolla or like others said try to get a 80s-90s buick with the 3800 v6. Just look over everything thoroughly because at that price range most vehicles are beat to death. A dealership is never going to sell you a good car and if its $1000 there it certainly isn't worth scrap and they're trying to bum it on an unsuspecting person. Always go for a private sale in my opinion

Go for a mid to late 90’s Civic or Corolla. Don’t look for the best paint or interior condition. Make sure the engine and transmission work fine. For $1,000 you can find a 1996 Honda Civic with a good engine and transmission but the paint will be fading and the interior might be stained or torn up so the car will likely be pretty ugly.

This would be a pretty good challenge for someone. Anyone can take a wad of cash and go find a decent car but with a budget of $1000, that would take some looking. People in my neighborhood are always advertising cars for sale on Nextdoor, the neighborhood social media site. No dealers around where I live have any $1000 cars that I am aware of. Also, in my county the vehicle has to pass an emissions inspection before it can be registered. A $1000 car may have issues that won't permit it to pass without repairs here.

dealers around me won't even cars under $3,000 any more.

I think you should get the 1997-2001 generation toyota camry because they fit your budget well and were pretty well made or a honda civic from the same era. I don't suggest the corollas because they were pretty crappy and economic and honda made the civics nicer than the corolla from back in 2000. Honestly, I don't think you have many good choices for $1000 that aren't tore to shreds and that aren't money pits. I think you should try finding an old 97-01 camry for $1000 if you can because they are the best ones for your budget. Other than that, you can go on craigslist by owner with and look for the ads with the decent pictures and description, clean title, and an actual number inside a purple box and you won't get scammed. If you can, you should get a car from family or friends because they probably will sell you a car in better condition.
