What's causing a clacking/knocking engine(cold) noise when accelerating?

My vehicle: 2015 Nissan Frontier Extd Cab 2WD, 2.5L 5 spd manual with 85,175 mi.  Every time I start the engine when cold and drive off shifting thru the gears, accelerating with the pedal only.  I hear this clacking/knocking noise underneath the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle for about 5 to 10 minutes.  Then the noise somewhat subsides once the engine warms up.  Note: Noise is very pronounce when driving down a narrow street with cars parked on both sides.

Could be a barely blown exhaust gasket.. especially since you said you notice it when driving along cars. When the gasket heats up it might expand enough to close the gap.

Cjbman may be right on this, while engine cold, spray exhaust manifold with soapy water real well at the head/exhaust manifold.  Start the vehicle and see if you have bubbles.  You can also still spray it for a couple minutes BUT DON"T SPRAY ON HOT HEAD or anything else hot.
