I buying new Ford F150, which engine you think will last longer and less issues 3.0L Diesel or 3.5L EcoBoost?

Hi Scotty,

I am buying a new Ford F150 and don't know what engine to buy, my biggest concern is longevity.  I don't care about how much it can tow because i really don't tow anything. The price is not a concern easier, just want a good solid engine in my F150, that will last 200K with very little issues.  In your professional opinion which option would you choose?

I have been watching your you tube videos for a very long time.  I saw the one about the EcoBoost having issues, so i think possibly you will say the diesel will be the better motor with less issues? Thank you for you time!

Stay away from 10 speed tranny.NA V8 or Diesel is good. Ecoboost is not good. If not towing, no need diesel.

@nick20s
Unfortunately, Ford does not offer anything else but for the 10 speed in their new trucks.

Do you like Tundra then?

Worried about bugs in 10 speed as of now.

@nick20s
Im not really a fan of the Tundra, i know its a great truck, just hard for me to get one the design.

I understand. Get extended warranty after the 5 years on 10 speed just to be safe.

@nick20s
sounds like a good plan, just to clarify you think the diesel will have less issues than the EcoBoost?

FloodFord is best for that extended warranty.

Definitely. Diesels are made stronger.

@nick20s
I agree the 10 speeds do seem to be buggy as they start ageing. The tundra does have a more traditional 6 speed, but i have yet to work on one.

@nick20s
Thanks for your professional advice, i will check out floodford.

Your welcome! Some 2018-2019 V8s also had oil burning issues from the redesigned 5.0L engine. I hope they got the bugs out by now. Diesel is looking better of all options. Also follow FordTechMacukoco for updates on Fords.

If the EcoBoost is turbocharged it will wear the engine out faster.

Diesels are typically extremely reliable and long running. .

If possible get the F-150 with a normal V8. Then you'll have the most horsepower for the least of amount of money and the best reliability.

Congrats on your (soon) new truck purchase 👍

@rallyfoz Thank you, Yes the V8 seems like a good option, but also just found out they will be adding an eco mode in the 2021 V8 that shuts down 4 cylinders, seems like 4 cylinders will get worn out and the other 4 will be good, so that is another reason thinking of the diesel.

Welcome, glad to help!

Can you purchase a brand new 2020 without the cylinder deactivation?

Ask a Ford service tech if there is a way to permanently shut off the cylinder deactivation.

As an example, this video shows how to disable the stop/start feature.

If not the diesel engine sounds like your best bet.
