What's your opinion on tranny's that are remanufactured by a 3rd-party?

Need to replace the tranny in my 2008 Toyota Sienna (approx. 147k miles).  I found a remanufactured tranny from reman-transmission.com for less $ than if I buy from Toyota.  It also has a much better warranty:  5 yr unlimited miles part & labor compared to Toyota's 1 yr parts only (labor included only if installed at Toyota).  I read the warranty terms and conditions and it seems to be solid.  Any reasons why I should stay away from remanufactured tranny's from a non-Toyota source?

This is a follow-up to my post the other day:  "Are salvaged transmissions any good?"

Thanks!

Depends on what your time is worth. Yes you get a warranty. But are you ok with having your car out of service while they try two, three, more units?

Only way to know you have a good one is to buy new. I would not skimp on the transmission.

Thanks mod_man. I was under the impression that it's not possible to get brand new tranny's for this gen Sienna anymore - that they don't make then anymore. Even if i buy direct from Toyota it would still be remanufactured (or so I've been told). The fact that even toyota charges a core fee indicates that's the case. Remanufactured are supposedly better than when it was new bc they make some improvements to the design. I don't know first hand, this is just what I've read and heard. Is my info wrong?

I'm not sure if they still make new transmissions for those or not. The issue with remanufactured units is very few places know how to rebuild them correctly. I would feel better having it rebuilt by Toyota than by a third party. They know their stuff inside and out and would be the best bet IMO.
