Got my '96 Chev truck back from the shop and noticed it now had pink coolant. I checked my newish 2018 RAV4 and it too had pink coolant. What happened to that yellow/green Mello Yello coolant of yesterday? Why it is now pink?

I grew up on yellow/green coolant as the standard. So I found it weird that there were so many different colored coolants.  With that said.

My 1999 Honda Accord uses blue coolant.

My 2004 Toyota Prius uses pink/red coolant.

I believe both Honda and Toyota products use their respective coolant recipe/colors across most of their lineup for the past 20 years.

These non-yellow non-green coolants have been around for quite sometime.

The 741 page manual (!!!) that came with the RAV4 says nothing about the color of the coolant, just its character: "only use 'Toyota super long life coolant' or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate...."

Yes. Use the recommended coolant in the manual. Toyota Super Long Life coolant is usually pink/red. And if you go aftermarket, the equivalent to Toyota’s coolant is most likely also pink/red. The colors are there just for guidance, but not the be all end of coolant designations. But most def look at the ingredients.

Just stopped by Advanced Auto. Two young dudes working there explained the Crayola system of coolants circa 2021. So I got the pink Peak jug for "Asian" cars, specifically Toyotas. Note that one of the 20ish dudes had the manual transmission scheme tattooed on the inside of his wrist. I know not what for.

The pink coolant performs much better than the old stuff and also lasts longer between changes.
