Scotty I need some advice
I've got an 03 Mazda protege sp20 manual in Australia and I've had 4 years with the car trouble free. As a bit of a car enthusiast, when something goes bad, I like to replace it so it has a few slight modifications but here the deal.
I've got all the parts but I don't know what order to get them done in.
I've got new brakes and rotors (current ones are okay and work fine)
A new heavy duty clutch + rear main seal (current one is soft and slips slightly every now and again, double clutching helps)
And new set of all motor/transmission mounts (2 have holes straight through them, 1 is cracked and the last is okay for now)
Ideally I would get them all done at the same time but I can only afford one at a time, plus it's my only car so I can't leave it overnight etc. What should I do?
Thanks for you time!
200 000kms on the clock
I let the parts dealer store my parts for me so I have more room in my house 😆
- You have to check brake pads regularly (every oil change works) to see when they will wear out.
- Rotors can be reused until they get too thin, or they warp and cause the steering wheel to wobble.
- If you don't like how the clutch feels then just replace it now.
- Is your RMS leaking badly?
- Motor/tranny mounts. Do them all, and do them right away. Vibration can cause other problems.
There isn't much benefit to combining repairs if going to shop.
However, the mounts are easy enough to do yourself on a weekend.
Thanks guys
Rear main isn't leaking but I have no idea when It was last replaced so I thought while the box is off I'll just change it, same with skimming flywheel
So I think I'll go clutch followed shortly by engine mounts, then worry about brakes later as they're still fine for now
1. Clutch (entire clutch kit).
2. Engine mounts when the vibrations at idle become unbearable.
3. Brake job when the present set wears out (shows symptoms) + fluid flush.
That's what I’d do atleast..
