1995 toyota avalon xl, 124k miles
...and how is it accessed?
Haynes Repair Manual for Camry/Avalon doesn't seem to contain any info on Neutral Safety switch. Since my car won't start and is stuck in Park, I'm thinking the problem may be with this switch.
I've already eliminated the battery, starter, fuses/relays and the ignition switch as being the problem(s). All checked out ok. When I pressed release button I was able to select other gears, incl. Reverse (and the backup lights did come on), but car did not crank in any gear.
Follow the gear shift cable down to the Gear Selector Shaft on the transmission.
It's behind the gear selector cable linkage on that shaft
Thanks for reply.
See if this video helps. It shows a module for a '97 Camry but I believe it is similar in design to a '95 Avalon.

Thanks, will check it out.
So I need to go under car then. Was hoping to access from shift console.
