Hello.
I've noticed that over the last year or so people in my town started buying old cars from the 80s and 90s, which is strange and enjoyable at the same time since I am a huge car fan.
I've been wondering, is there any RELIABLE, WELL-BUILT car from the 80s and 90s I could still use as a daily driver....after all those years? (Provided I find one with full service history, low mileage, good condition)
Budget : 5000 €
Thanks.
judging from your currency, you're asking about European cars.
Not necessarily European-made. I am in Slovakia, that's why €.
I just mean that Euro cars will be easier to find than say, American cars.
In Slovakia, could you find a mid 90' Camry? That is probably the most reliable car from that era. The engine and transmission are bulletrpoof. That is probably the most reliable one. Nothing special but will get from A to B the best. I would stay away from the Corolla's because the Camry's have overall better quality. Can you get parts for Toyota's there? Also, a late 80's or early 90's Honda Accord, and a mid-1990's Nissan Sentra are good options. If you want to go european, try a 80's BMW 3 series or a 80's Volvo, they were built like tanks back then.
I think he's looking for a car that's unique AND reliable. At least that's how I interpreted the question. You wouldn't buy an 80's car unless you were after a certain style.

1980 Renault car's seem to have character. They seem to be reliable as well.
Those Rambler Torinos are pretty wild. Never saw one here in the U.S. , too bad AMC didn't build them that way here. Here's more info for anyone not familiar with them:
The Škoda 110 R has a very retro look.

Yes. Skoda I believe is a part of Volkswagen and 70's 80's VW's are farely reliable so I would assume this could be cheap to maintain and have some character.

The Volkswagen Group involvement began in 1991. Before that, Škoda was state owned and operated.
I see. I found that out too. Do you think it is reliable? I put some pictures of 1980's Reanault's because they are decent cars I see them all over Europe the 90's ones so I though it could be decent. @kristtboda at least I am in America not sure about parts in Slovakia but I know Skoda's, Renault's, and VW's are extremly popular in Turkey.
I think it doesn't matter. A car like that is going to be a project anyway. But using modern materials and parts, a lot of old problems can be improved or go away completely if you are handy.
I personally like Škodas because my family owned them, so maybe I'm just sentimental about them.
He said he wants it as a daily driver though.
maybe as a second car. I definitely wouldn't want a 30 year old car as my one-and-only daily driver.
Yes. Same. Unsafe and breaking down all the time. But he wants a daily driver and I think if its in good shape any car would be fine if parts are readily available, either way it will fall apart because of age.
I still see first three generations of Golf on roads.
