Which year Lexus GX to buy?

Hi Scotty!

I want to buy a used Lexus gx470 or gx460. It must have a KDSS (active sway bars).

Which year to look for? I heard that 2004 to 2006 are best, that Lexus introduced some issues in 2007 and carried that issue into the second gen Gx460 until 2013 or so (and newer ones are too expensive).

Also, is there a way to detect if a car has that KDSS option (without asking for a picture of the rear axle)?

I have a 2008 GX, and before I bought it, I heard the ones you want to avoid are the earlier models until 2006. They tweaked some things, and increased the horsepower. Even still, the earlier models were great vehicles.

From the places I researched, the ones you want to aim for are 2007-2009. Wanting KDSS is going to really limit the ones you can find.

If you are wanting KDSS, I am guessing you want one for off-roading, it is a terrific vehicle for that, and for long comfy road trips.

The GX460 is a good vehicle too, but added more bells and whistles, and is rated lower by the owners than the 470.

Does the Lexus GX470 have the 2UZ-FE 4.7L engine in it?. I hear this is a legendary engine in terms or reliability, but recently wached a video where a mechanic had to remove the exhaust manifold because it developed a leak. And apparently this leak is connected to rust which is a built in flaw in the manifold design. He said the issues doing the job were massive because it's so difficult to get to.

Kinda put me off getting that 4.7L 2UZ-FE Landcruiser I've had my eye on for years. I knwo this is a job that's beyond me and I think about the dmage the average mechanic would do to the car for such a nuisance job.
