Why different oil recommendations?

We have a 2010 RAV4 V6 and a 2015 Lexus RX, both have the 2GR-FE engine.  Can anyone tell me why the specified oil for the RAV4 is 5W-30 and the RX specified oil is 0W-20?  Is this just Toyota modifying a recommendation between 2010 and 2015?  Thanks.

Oils improve. Engines get small changes. Don't just look at the weight. There might be other oil specifications they recommend too.

Fuel economy...but stick with whatever weight is recommended.

Same model engine, different year: … small changes are made all the time! For example, I have a Honda that, presumably, the same model has been produced from ‘07 to ‘12, … but I have an OEM service manual that covers the same period. When I look at the engine section, … there are changes, pretty well for every single year. Small changes, … small changes in the procedures of disassembly and reassembly, small changes in specifications - numerical values - made, … added and/or removed certain details, … like a bottom of the piston spray lubrication for model ‘10 was added that was absent for model ‘09 and before, as an example.

Anyway, … bottom line: stick to the specifications dictated by the specific car and year. There is a reason there was a change made, … hopefully for better results.
