Scotty, why does my mom's honda crv only have a backup camera and nothing else tech wise when it is a 2019. It was $25k. My uncle got a $20k Suzuki and it has lasted 25k miles with no issues and it has push button start, power mirrors, apple carplay, turn signal indicators, leather steering wheel, navigation, smart key access, and heated seats and it is 5k less??? Why does honda think it can offer the same technology as a 2003 camry in their new crv's.
OP has a base model 2019 CR-V.
I've worked in technology for decades and believe me when I say you do not want to be on the bleeding edge of the latest whiz-bang gadgetry. Mature, stable technology with a good track record of reliability in the field is far preferable.
I'm way too cheap to buy a new or late model car, but if were looking at one and it used 10-year-old technology I'd see that as a desirable feature rather than a detriment. (In fact I have not yet purchased a car built this century.) Quality is far more important than flashy gadgets.
My 2021 Ridgeline has push button start, power windows, a backup camera, AWD, Bluetooth connectivity, power mirrors, rear defroster, auto headlights w/auto high beams, a digital speedo, radar cruise control, lane departure assist, brake assist, remote start, power locks, dual zone A/V up front w/rear seat console vents, keyless entry, keyless locking, power tailgate lock.....all of which is standard. That was plenty for me as I only added the optional HPD package for appearance and the nice tires.
My 2020 Accord Sport has heated seats, lane departure, radar cruise, brake assist, brake hold, heated seats, power everything, Bluetooth connectivity, electronic hand brake, back up camera, auto headlights, remote start, keyless entry, keyless lock.....
I don't see how you can say either are related to a 2003 technologically equipped car.
@mod_man I heard that your Honda Ridgeline doesn't even have sun visor lights lol.
How's your Ridgeline holding up btw?
Lol it does actually! And it's been great! 6k miles so far, no issues to report. Checked for oil dilution just in case, but no problems there. 🙂
@Mod_Man Keep us updated on the sky
@Mod_Man There's a cool window trick to roll your windows down or up without starting the engine. You have to press the unlock or lock button two times and then hold either button the second time you press. You can do this also with a key.
Woof a ridgeline 😉
@legendaryslayerthat is on my moms crv and it sucks cause the windows go down for no reason sometimes in heave rain and the seats are all wet the next day and my dad blamed me every time up until i searched up the feature online.
It's either the system or you suppose press it two times without holding it. Rip
The only thing that Honda and Toyota need is an aggressive engine option for HPD and TRD packages.
Yeah I've used the remote for the windows. My Accord has the same trick, as do the newer Mustangs. It's great in Texas on a hot day.
I highly highly doubt the 2019 crv doesn't have power windows and it would be illegal not to have turn indications. Heated seats, push button start and apple car play are so far the only thing that I can see that are an optional item. From what I know if the thing got a LCD center console I'm pretty sure it has technology. Think you be exaggerating a bit there man unless you got a picture, cause from what I remember and what I see online, what you are saying ain't the case.
A car company can spend their money putting in features and gadgets, or concentrate on quality and performance. Take your pick, and live with the consequences.
Oh, wait, you didn't buy either car. You're complaining about other people's cars.
In 2018, my wife picked out a new Honda HRV.
The young salesman quipped of the outdated technology, "Basically, you are buying a brand new 10 year old car".
But to me, having a tried and true Honda engine and electronics were its best features.
He should have said 20 year old car if it was the base model you were talking about.
If something on a Honda was invented in 1975 and it works great, Honda ain't no dummy, they's gonna use it!
I wish they came with the little Hula Girl that swayed back and forth as you drove!
Ah the good ol days. {pear}
Did your mom buy the base model?
yea but it has nothing that a base model car would have had 20 years ago disregarding the backup camera. It was a 2019. It probably had nothing more than a 99' crv in any sort of features.
You don’t understand the marketing strategy of a ‘base’ model. It’s sold specifically as a fully stripped down variant, with only bare necessities. If you want feel good features, you need to increase your budget & pay for the additional features. Compare your base model CR-V to the fully loaded, top of the line variant & then check if your question makes sense again.
When it comes to Honda, I am pretty sure Honda wanted to sell every electronic system they have in their inventory before moving on to a new generation of Honda vehicles. All I need for my vehicle is just reliability. The only optional gadgets I really don't need but I would have is Apple Carplay and safety features.
Yea, but i mean blind spot monitoring is really cheap to add and honda still didn't include it. I have almost hit a lot of people on the road because of the blind spots in the 2015 accord i practice on because new cars are full of airbags.
True. You probably wished any vehicles at least have blind spot monitoring. But I guess there's a market for other people who wanted not much tech. When are you coming back to school? I am coming back tomorrow in person.
What? Your school starts in august? Mine starts Septmeber 10th in person definetly. I am starting the most important year of high school which is 11th grade. Only two more years with my crappy classmates. What grade are you beginning? I am still in Europe on vacation, btw...
@end I'm in 10th grade. So you are probably a year older than me I assume lol. My school ends almost end of May before Memorial Day.
Oh. That's weird.. I guess they do things different on the west coast than the east coast. Yes I am 16 and am guessing you are 15 years old. Good luck in 10th grade. If you care about college, try to do well this year because colleges will check 10th and 11th grade. I had the worst 10th grade year of my life. I was depressed last year and my grades were low. I hope you do well! I have a tough year and probably the most important year of my life this year and the SAT, so I hope things turn around for me this year...
@end Thanks a lot I really do need it. This quarter is going to be a living hell for me. I have English 10, Math 3 Honors (Trigonometry Accelerated I think), Spanish 3, and AP Chemistry. So I won't be answering a lot in this forum that much.
Not only that, you have to read one book in English 10 for the whole quarter (9 weeks).
you have ap classes in sophomore year? I am taking trigonometry and physics accelerated so this year isn't that hard except for the two computer science courses i take twice a day everyday.
@end You could do one AP class in freshman, but it is not important to me. The only thing I'm worrying about is time management.
@legendaryslayer you should buy a calender like I did on amazon. It was 10 bucks and it has a lot of organzied stuff for assifnments and due dates and you can still do unimorptant stuff, but schedule it for later
How is this discussion related to Honda using outdated technology?
You reminded me of a customer of mine. She had a 2019 Camry Hybrid. When she saw my 2021 non-hybrid Camry that had all the tech from backup camera, BSM, homelink, to start button, she asked why hers was a hybrid and it had none of my stuff. I just laughed. Some car salesman probably had tricked her.
why does the hybrid strip you of features though?
Probably base Camry Hybrid
I dont understnd why people buy the base model of reliable vehicles like honda and toyota. The upgraded interiors will provide way more resale value and comfort...
Because they're less expensive, and not everyone sells off a car after a few years. I personally insist on squeezing the last possible bit of value out of my cars, I keep them until they are unserviceable. In fact the next "owner" of my vehicles is almost invariably the junkyard by the time I'm done with them.
For Honda a lot of the technology comes in at a significantly higher price, on an Accord you're looking at $6k more (although you also get leather seats & some other minor features)
It is an area they're less competitive in for sure. I'd like to see them steal the blind spot camera system from Hyundai as quickly as possible, that is probably my favorite standard safety feature that I've seen on any new vehicle.
@jamessmith Actually, some Hondas have LaneWatch but it's only on the right mirror. So technically, Hyundai stole Honda's idea.
Does Suzuki even sell new vehicles in the U.S. anymore? Thought they pulled out years ago.
i meant in Europe cause that's where he lives.
Ahh okay. It probably depends on the country. Something roughly equivalent to the CR-V in the UK, the Suzuki Vitara, is about $26k starting price so similar to the Honda. Maybe a currency conversion issue explains the disparity? Regardless Suzuki does tend to make smaller vehicles to it’s possible that would explain the cost as well depending on the model. At least in the UK they seem relatively similar for comparable vehicles though.
