Hi Scotty, I just bought a 2017 Hyundai Accent around a month ago now, and on the first day I had the car I drove it school and overheated half way there, I called the dealership and they sent a tow truck and rental car to get to school. and the next day I got a call from them and said it was the thermostat the car ran fine the next few weeks and now today my car started overheating again I got home and I had my windows down and A/C turned off and everything seems to be okay I just added antifreeze a couple days ago. What should I do?

Didn't this problem show up during the pre-purchase inspection? What kind of dealer did you buy it from? Any warranty at all?

I just added antifreeze a couple days ago.

If you are losing coolant you either have a leak, a blown head gasket, or a cracked cylinder head.

Diagnose the problem if you are able to yourself, take it to a good independent mechanic for diagnosis otherwise. There are tips for diagnosing an overheating condition in the site FAQ. Hopefully the overheating episodes have not blown the head gasket.

@chucktobias thanks for the information. And no, the issue with my car didn’t show up before purchasing my car. They covered the repair cost and my car does have warranty on it, the dealership where I got it from is a family owned business by 3 brothers I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it and what can I use to diagnose my car I don’t know what to really look for this is my first car and my dad never gave me tips on how to fix it I’m only 19 years old and still learning these things with my car.

You can start with the diagnostic tips in the FAQ. However if you really are not familiar with working on cars you need to have a mechanic check it out. Overheating can have many potential causes and serious consequences. Is the warranty tied to the dealer or does it cover the car at any mechanic? A good independent shop in your area would be the best bet.

Although I hate to judge before all the facts are in, it sounds to me like a bottom-feeding "Buy Here Pay Here" lot took advantage of you and sold you a bad car.
