Why is my 06 Saab 9-2x misfiring?

I have a 2006 Saab 9-2x 2.5i engine. I have a code p0301 and the car is shaking at idle and while driving. Hard to start at first start of the day. The check engine light was blinking along with the cruise control.

Replaced the coil pack and problem was gone for 2 weeks and then came back.

I took it to a mechanic that checked the spark plugs and replaced one that he said was damaged. These were new spark plugs from a recent tune-up. The problem was not fixed, but after about 20 minutes the car will surge forward and then drive normally until you turn off car and restart.

Today we replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump drove about 10 minutes and sat idle for about 5 minutes running more rough than before. Drove away and after a few minutes it surged forward and ran perfectly again and all flashing lights went off, let it run for about 15 more minutes turned it off and it started 2 times perfectly. After a few hours started it again and the shaking and flashing check engine lights are back.

A couple of months previously had a tune-up, timing belt and water pump changed.

Any suggestions on what to do from here?

Sounds like your ignition module might be having issues or you have a coil that needs to get hot to work correctly. I would take all the connectors apart one at a time and check for corrosion, clean them if necessary and make sure they plug back together tightly. Then you can get some compressed air and use the can upside down. Spray individual coils after its running correctly to shock cool them down. If it goes back to running like crap when u cool one that’s a bad coil. Can do same with ignition control and ECM.

Do you still get misfire code 301 or others. And what kind of damage did that one plug have?
