Buy a late model Corolla with 10-20k miles OR a late model Camry with 30-40k miles?
I really enjoy smaller cars and think the Corolla looks a bit more sporty. However, the Camry offers more space, comfort, and less road noise after researching. Just looking for some thoughts to help make a decision. Thanks!
If you want something comfortable or a family car, I'd go Camry
If you want something as a A to B commuter car but still rides fairly well and is a decent car overall, I'd go Corolla
If they are the same price, I'd go Camry.
Keep in mind Camrys 2018 and before should be avoided, 2019+ would be a good consideration.
For the Camry from the previous Gen, wasn’t it just 2012-2014 MYs with the U760E 6 Speed Automatic issue?
@daywalker
I was refering to the 2018 model years 8 speed auto, and 2012-2016 had shudder problems, while Toyotas TSB only included 2012-2014 for torque converter issues.
Scotty even had friends with the 2015/2016 years where the transmission just failed on them.
Is 2017 MY ok? Just trying to get it straight, because it seems like that generation Camry should be avoided but we don’t want to make a mountain out of a molehill either.
@daywalker
I'm not an expert on every model year. I know up to 2016 there is. If you trust carcomplaints, then its good. But then again, it isn't old enough. 2017 is the last year and Toyota does tend to fix things so I assume they did fix it, but I don't want to say something I don't know. But I definetly know 2012-2016, and 2018.
But I do think that 2017 does have an issue, though I'm not sure how widespread
Repairpal shows the most common issues, and transmission issues is the most common by far

Understood my friend.
@daywalker
Update: 2017 used the U761, while 2012-2016 used the U760 which should explain why there aren't many transmission complaints.
of course now I figure out that is not applicable to this generation, its for the next one...
I give up on the Camry
Both great choices.
As somebody who personally hates compact cars, I’d go Camry. That’s why I switched from a Civic to a Camry. On longer drives in a Civic or Corolla, it would start to feel very claustrophobic and feeling every single bump in the road gets pretty annoying along with those uncomfortable seats.
The Camry seems like the opinion of most. My wife has a 2015 Civic and they are incredibly uncomfortable on long drives. I think it's the headrest mainly. Also, her civics factory paint has been peeling near the trunk and rear bumper. Scotty has pointed out the poor paint quality on newer Hondas specifically which has steered me away.
Camry on that one. The wife's 2015 4-cylinder XLE runs like new at 75k miles. Never had a single issue out of it.
If I had to choose between those, I'd get the Corolla. But I like smaller cars, so theres that. And to be specific I'd get a Corolla Hatchback with manual transmission, but thats just me 🙂
I've driven hatchbacks for years and love them but been wanting to change it up. I really like the look of the newest Corolla SE with a manual.
I would go for the Camry. Neither one of those drives particularly sporty, so I would rather go with the extra practicality and comfort that the Camry offers. If you want something that drives more peppy and handles better, go for a Honda Civic or a Honda Accord 2.0T.
