I was thinking about buying a 1998 dodge Dakota for 800 from the Facebook market but the guy said it needs core/freeze plugs is it worth it for a first car/beater

No. Buy something that runs. My first car cost me $800. It ran when I bought it, and then for many more years.

Any ideas of what I should look into for a good beater for 1,000$

$1,000 is not enough for a reliable car these days. Try asking all your friends/neighbors/coworkers/family if they know of anything. They might give you a better deal since they know you.

But I would save up another grand or two and try to get something less than 10 years old. Start scouring Craigslist and your local used car lots.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking plus I don’t need nothing too fancy just something that will get me from home to work which is around a mile and a half

Bicycle!

Right 😂

You're looking at the block or heads being cracked also. True, the freeze plugs are supposed to help prevent that...BUT... ☹...you won't know that unless you replace all the plugs in the block and heads, then pressure test.

Personally, I'd find something else. Unless you want a project that can get expensive fast.

I could find a 90s Corolla for 700 bucks running and driving. Look for old 90s Nissans Toyotas old Civics etc. If it is in good mechanical shape you may want to pay even more to get sometimes that is solid, like 1400 bucks for a 90s Civic.

Alright I’ll look into your advise thx
