| 08 dakota starter | 18Relevance | 6 years ago | Ngatruckguy | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I have a 2008 dodge Dakota. It has an intermittent problem with starting. On occasion, when you try to start, the the engine will turn over, but the starter won't disengage, and so the engine stales out and the starter keeps cranking. I have already now replaced the starter relay, the starter motor and solenoid, and the ignition switch on the steering column. After replacing the ignition switch, the problem went away for three months or so, but now it seems to have returned. | |||||
| 92 Dakota occasionally starving for fuel | 18Relevance | 6 years ago | BMRankin | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I have a 1992 Dakota LE 2wd 6cylinder 5speed. I don't know the true milage because the odometer was replaced and the original milage space on the door placard is blank. The current odometer has 223,500 miles. It occasionally acts like it's starving for fuel. I replaced the throttle position sensor and it does so less frequently, but it still acts like it doesn't have enough fuel occasionally. I think it might be dirty injectors(it's TBI) or a bad fuel pump(the gauge hasn't worked for the 7 years I've owned it) I also suspect the IAC or the MAP sensor ... | |||||

| I talked with the car salesman, and at some point they added hill-start assist again. That reminds me of a story my mom used to tell me. There's a hill called Dinosaur Hill in South Dakota that is really steep. It took forever for my mom to master getting started up that hill from a standstill. I know a little bit about using the clutch. You're basically trying to feather the throttle and let the clutch out as the same time. As soon as the engine encounters resistance from the transmission, the engine wants to stall if you don't give the car enough gas. ... | |||||

| ... pushing the clutch back in, or the motor will stall. It's not like an automatic, where the torque converter can freely spin in hydraulic fluid if the car isn't moving, and the engine is running. I've only driven a stick a few times. I did it on an at-the-time brand-new 2018 Mustang with the hill-hold feature and I'd stall the car. My mom had to practice learning to drive a stick in the Black Hills of South Dakota. She says I have it easier than she did, because of the hill-hold feature. I think it's the opposite, I think I'd prefer to not have the hill-hold ... | |||||
