I have a 2002 Dakota 4.7 with 120k on it. No codes. Well maintained. Fresh tuneup. Clean gas. Used heavy injector cleaners. But On occasion when accelerating, usually from a stop. The Dakota will stutter. It’s the equivalent of a brain fart. That moment where nothing happens. No backfire, no response, no acceleration, doesn’t die, just doesn’t go. Normally after letting off the gas and starting over it will be ok but every few times it won’t go for up to a minute.
I’ve worked on cars a lot and asked a lot of people what the problem is and no one seems to know. Any ideas?
Love your content!! I’ve watched most of your videos and appreciate your help if possible! Thanks so much
Is it the throttle as in the engine isn't trying or the trans isn't shifting down?
@zander916
Thanks for responding!!
It’s definitely throttle like. Almost as if the system goes brain dead for a moment. Doesn’t choke or stall. Just doesn’t react at all
Have you solved the issue? I have a similar problem with my Dakota 2001.
I know there were problems with the TPS's, but not sure that would cause your problem. Using a scan tool or lab scope or volt meter slowly sweep the sensor looking for glitches.
I find an 1A auto video where the lady presents the 5 most common issues. I guess what we are experiencing is very common on Dakotas. Apparently is related to the intake valley pan where the in the valley there is a metal pan with bolts where the gasket goes bad. Also she points out a boot. Check it out.
