| Slight lifter noise.. 2006, Lexus RX330, 145,000miles. | 12Relevance | 4 years ago | J.P. | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello, There are so many conflicting opinions on oil additives to quiet lifter noise I'm unsure if it's worth a risk in trying any. I just don't know who to trust anymore. Except for Master Kilmer! I recently inherited a 2006 RX330 and it has very slight lifter ticking at idle. It has been dealer maintained for the first 120k then not so much after that. Routine oil changes every 3k though. I've never owned a Toyota before and have heard far too many differing opinions on using any additives in a Lexus, so before I risk doing any future damage, I have to ask the Master. Is there any oil additive that is deemed perfectly safe for the lifters/valve train in my 06 Lexus or is it worth even trying? I can live with the slight noise, it is very minimal, but it's there, the engine runs beautiful still, no codes, but I don't want the noise to get worse if I can help it. Any information is appreciated. Thank you very very much. | |||||
| An opinion from possibly Scotty on this purchase | 12Relevance | 4 years ago | mtthwia | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello, I currently have an SUV gas hog and I am getting rid of it because of insane amounts of money I spend for gas even though I'm always by myself. I don't need a big car so I wanted something extremely economical. I am going to purchase a 2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L 3cyl engine but with a MANUAL transmission, I will not get those horrendous automatics. I know ratings are different but for the most part they average around 40 mpg. I saw one with 60k miles and asking for 6 grand for it with no problems at all. What are you're opinions on those 3 cylinder engines with manual transmissions? I've seen some with well over 200k and they've still been running strong, but obviously with the manual ones. Do you think these are good cars? What are your opinions on that specific fiestas? | |||||
| Answer to: How do you feel about state car inspection? | 12Relevance | 4 years ago | AutoDIY | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I have zero issues with anyone challenging or arguing against any points or opinions I make. In fact, I welcome them. By hearing other peoples opinions it's a great way to learn and grow. As far as the emissions part of the tests are concerned, you are correct. I unfortunately also have to pass an OBD-II emissions test every year as you described above. The user end of the software is very simple, it has to be so that the inspector can easily enter the data. Regarding the emissions tests, the state systems are effective. Apparently fraud happens all of the time in PA. The links I listed below seem to pretty clearly show a very flawed inspection system. | |||||
| Unusual Rust | 12Relevance | 5 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I thought I would get some more "professional" opinions on this rust that I'm having on my '99 Ranger. This is the front leaf spring bracket on both sides. The frame has a pair of relatively small rusty pits just above factory holes in the frame rails. I've never seen anything rust like this before and was curious of people's opinions on it. I sprayed the right side with Rust-O-Leum's Rust-inhibitor last year and that spot hasn't begun rusting again as far as I can tell. The driver's side I've not touched. The metal looks pretty solid other than that one spot and it bangs like metal. Is this rust from the inside or outside, and should I be concerned with it? I can't access that area from behind. | |||||

| People are entitled to their own opinions. His opinions on cars may not be about reliability but performance. I don't think there is right or wrong on that. His money, his ways. | |||||

| To buy or not to buy a 2004 RAV4 with low miles | 12Relevance | 5 years ago | Alan222 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello everyone, I've been a fan of Scotty for a while but this is my first time posting here. I was hoping to get some opinions/advice on buying a manual transmission 2004 Toyota RAV4 with 53,000 miles for $10,000 as a daily driver. It's being sold at a dealership and has only had one owner that resided in Maryland. I think the price is high but my main worry is the age to mile ratio. There are no real maintenance records but according to the Carfax it was at least driven to emission inspections every 2 years since 2007. What are your opinions on buying a close to 20 year old vehicle with such low miles on it? Since the car is from the salt belt I would inspect it for rust and the usual checks but is there something I should look out for on mostly stationary vehicles like this one? I plan on taking it to an independent mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection but wanted to know if any of you had any experience with older cars with low mileage. I appreciate any advice you guys have, thanks for the time. - Alan | |||||
| Answer to: 2008 Volkswagen Jetta SE as a first car? | 12Relevance | 5 years ago | Kerem | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| 2006 Volkswagen Jetta opinions 2009 Volkswagen Jetta opinions "I don't know much about VWs" Ok so, Volkswagen is a German car brand with a "german engineering!" mindset, so their cars are always overengineered and complicated. They cost a lot of money to maintain and repair. They put Audi, Porshce, Lambo, Bentley... technology into cheap little Jettas, and put cheap Jetta quality into expensive products. Now they do look and drive nice. But if you care about your money, get a 2003-2013 Toyota Corolla instead. Whatever car you consider, make sure to have a mechanic check it out before buying. | |||||
| New EV company scamming investors? | 12Relevance | 5 years ago | JohnnyETX | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello I was just wondering your opinions about a new EV company called Atlis Motor Vehicles based out of Mesa Arizona. Their product they are advertising is a heavy duty truck that is fully electric, has a 500 mile range, can be fully charged in 15 minutes and can tow up to 35,000 pounds. They even said the price would start at around $45,000. They’ve even claimed that the vehicle would go 1,000,000 miles with regular maintenance. The CEO of the brand claims he has a new superior type of battery technology that he developed during his time spent in his old profession manufacturing tasers, however he doesn’t seem to have any history in vehicle engineering. They also claim several other things about the vehicle that seem like it may be too good to be true. Normally I wouldn’t pay much attention until I see a physical product, however they are actively asking for and taking large investments from people. They say the vehicle will be available for sale in 2022. They have had a lot of coverage from several large sources like motortrend and TFL, and I am curious about the legitimacy of this company. Since I’ve followed this story I see people on YouTube and social media all the time talking about how excited they are for the innovation this company is making and how they are investing heavily into this brand, and I do not see a lot of people calling them out or bringing up any speculations. Any thoughts or opinions? | |||||
