| Answer to: Replacing piston rings on 4 Cylinder Camry | 15Relevance | 2 years ago | Hixster | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| The bad rings were put in 2AZ-FE engines starting in 2007. Earlier year models were unaffected because those 2AZ-FE engines did not have the newer 'updated' low tension rings. Those new rings caused the excessive oil burning. Forget about putting rings in that engine. My advice, don't sink major $$$ in a 18 year old car. Just keep adding oil and drive it till it dies. | |||||

| Because its a lousy company that makes junky cars, and they know that. I'm not sure what you exactly mean by soft piston rings, but Kias across the board seem to make crappy engines, and they just end up burning oil way earlier than they should. At this point you might want to consider getting rid of it, or just keep making sure the oil is full & doing oil changes every 5k. | |||||
| 2008 ES350 piston slap? | 15Relevance | 5 years ago | Carbanak | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello, I recently bought an 08 ES350 with ~140k miles. Coming from an 09 Corolla, I am surprised to hear what sounds like knocking when it's cold out. It sounds like this: but not as bad. I can't hear it at idle, but mostly between 1500-2500RPM. From what I've read, the most common conclusion is piston slap as the pistons expand to fill the cylinder walls. Once the engine is warm, the noise is basically gone. The only case I've seen this "problem" has been solved is on an 08 Sienna where the entire short block was replaced under warranty. It seems that Toyota revised the 2GR-FE around 2010 to prevent this noise, but no one knows what they did. Does anyone have any experience with their own 2GR-FE powered vehicles making this noise and if so were you able to fix it? It doesn't seem to affect performance, but I would like to keep this car as long as I can and the noise is quite disconcerting. Thanks | |||||
| 2014 Audi A5 With Defective Piston Rings | 15Relevance | 5 years ago | CategoryAssets | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi Guys, Quick question, I purchased a 2014 Audi A5 from an Audi dealership. At the time of sale, car had 44,000 miles. At 60,000 miles the engine had a major engine failure. piston ring issue issues caused by excessive oil consumption. Dealer refused to help, Audi USA was a waste of time. Cost of repair $6,000. In Massachusetts one had to send a demand letter to either the manufacturer and or dealer. The 2013 models and earlier were covered for the above through a class action law suit. The 2014 model Audi A5 has several class action suits in process. I’ve reviewed the consumer protection laws in MA. However defective parts & product liability claims have been successful as well. Being logical suing in small claims maybe a better option. Had anyone gone through anything like this . jS | |||||
| PSA: Don't drive your old cars hard. (RIP piston rings) | 15Relevance | 5 years ago | 7.3PunchInA3.4 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Me and a few buddies thought it would be fun to test the limits of some of our trucks after having a few beers this last weekend. I'll keep this short. The end result was the sudden yet catastrophic failure of my piston rings resulting in excessive oil consumption to the level of making clouds. R.I.P. to the OG engine in the 05 Ford E350. I'll get a video up eventually. So as someone who just lost their faithful engine after 220K towing miles to 50 miles of stupidity, take it easy. I'll keep this thread updated with my decision to either put in a new motor or junk it. Feel free to reply with any similar stories or advice concerning junking/engine replacement. | |||||
