| Grinding when putting in first gear Corolla e150 2007 (09 USA) | 15Relevance | 5 years ago | ivan4o1997 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello group, I have a Toyota Corolla e150 1.6 124PS (dual vvt) 1ZR-FE with a 5 speed manual. I think I have a problem with first gear. When the car is at a standstill or moving really slow and put it in first gear, there are no problems even if I rev up the engine press the clutch, and engage first (to spin up the input shaft) no grinding whatsoever. When the car moves (2 MPH or more) and try to engage first it makes a grinding noise and engages eventually. My question is, do these Toyotas even have synchros on first gear since it sounds a bit different t ... | |||||
| Wondering about my First Car... | 11Relevance | 5 years ago | RyanCurtiss | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I've been driving now for a year in my Uncles 2011 Acura MDX. I have a drivers permit and I'm 16 years old, I plan on getting my driver's license soon when I'm able to nail parallel parking and some parking in general. My uncle plans on giving me his SUV and I am having trouble with the idea and I am wondering if an SUV is a good first car or not. I feel as if its not the best option for a first time driver and it is not like I need an SUV anyways. So I'm asking if an SUV is a good first car and any ideas for what I could do with my situation. | |||||

| Sure, if a mechanic checks it out thoroughly before purchase, and the engine & transmission are in good shape, it can make a great first car for a new/teenage driver. If you’re on a budget, look at cosmetically blemished, but mechanically perfect examples. That way you can bargain hard on the purchase price, and fix the paint/dents whenever time & money permits, in future. Odds are a first time driver will also add his own collection of dents to the car.. Also, feel free to search ‘first car’ in the search box of this website (top right). Good l ... | |||||
| Answer to: Corolla won’t go into first gear. | 10Relevance | 5 years ago | Corolla9generation | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I have that exact same year, make, model and transmission as you. I find that its very difficult to get it into first and I either have to push or slow down. Being uphill helps go into first better while rolling downhill does the opposite I believe it is a lockout so that you do not damage the first gear. Otherwise, post a video of you trying to get into first and show just how much force you have to apply | |||||

| ... with the verdict being "The car is not worth fixing and should be dumped". This approach has certain consequences aka downsides: along these lines, for a very old car, almost no serious repair work would be worth doing at all, cause the "official" money value of most old cars is very low, while repairs and parts are relatively expensive. If following these lines, the first slightest defect would virtually leave you with no car at all, and in search for a (probably much newer, cause really old cars in really good shape are extremely rare) replacement car, w ... | |||||

| The car i want to get is a really cool one. It is the 2011 toyota rav4 v6. This was the coolest rav4 toyota ever made and the looks are very trendy, the car is extremely relaible with low maintnence, and the 6 cylinder engine packed with this cars light weight makes this car go 0-60 in 6.3 seconds. What cooler first car is there? BTW i am also a teen looking for my first car. | |||||

| My first car was a yellow 1976 Chevrolet Chevette with a three speed auto, I would lose drag races with bicycles with that junk heap. I told everyone I owned a ‘Vette, no one believed me for one second. I really stepped up n the automotive world when I got my first Chrysler K car. | |||||

| Answer to: Should I buy a 21-year-old Volvo as my first car? | 10Relevance | 1 year ago | Chuck Tobias | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Buying a 21-year-old European car as a first car is not a good idea unless you live in Europe. In the U.S. they are expensive to maintain and repair unless you do the work yourself and even then parts can be expensive. A much better first vehicle would be a well-maintained older Corolla or Civic, avoiding models with known problems. (Inherent problems with a particular model and year can be found with a simple internet search.) If you are determined to purchase this car only a good mechanic, preferably one familiar with Volvos, inspecting the car before pur ... | |||||

I just need some advice on some good cars for a first car at 18 years old. Saved up this money through hard work so I’d love for the car to last long. I have every intention to baby and care for the car as much as possible. Thanks! | |||||

| Hello Scotty, Thank you for welcoming me here. Recently I bought a 1989 Nissan Sentra XE 2 door sedan for $2300, that has the 90 hp GA16i engine with manual 4 speed transmission and has 122,410 miles on the odometer. Now this was my first time buy a car by myself so I was very naive to the process. I'm just a full time university student working two part time jobs. I already have a car as a daily driver, which is my 1998 Honda Accord. I felt I paid way too much for a 30+ year old car and that was a foolish mistake, it was initially offered at $3500 whe ... | |||||
