2013 Subaru Legacy 2.5i, has only 53,000 miles and it's my uncles' brothers' car. He is selling it so he can get a pickup. And he'd sell it to me for 9k$. If there are any known issues with this make and model Subaru please let me know. if there is anything special about the car that I should know please let me know. I am not crazy about how the car looks. but its my first car and I can't be picky, I'd rather have reliable than a fast cool looking car for my first.

P.S,

if anyone has a good idea for first cars that are at least the year 2013 and has a screen in it then please let me know. I am looking for sedans.

Subarus are fairly good cars! If I were you, I would talk to your aunt, in private. Ask her about your uncle’s Subaru, … if she has nothing bad to say about it, … just get it! Risk is, most likely, a far lesser than a deal from a curber, or unscrupulous dealer.

F.S.

Sure, those are pretty solid and fairly reliable cars. At 53,000 miles it is still a spring chicken. That would be an excellent first car. Go ahead and buy it.

By 2013 Subaru's head gasket problems were in the past. Howeverthe 2013 Legacy is one of the Subaru vehicles that tended to have excessive oil consumption, in fact Subaru settled a class-action lawsuit over the problem:

That car is just about outside the extended warranty enacted due to the settlement, so ask about how much oil it's using between changes. (Since you're dealing with relatives maybe you'll get an honest answer?)

Also unless it has a manual transmission you need to be concerned about the CVT since that's the weakest part of the car and is VERY expensive to replace, I've read as much as $8K. Usually they are good for 100K-150K miles but if abused they can certainly fail earlier. If it does have a CVT and there are any issues (shuddering, slipping, grinding, hesitation changing ratios, bad noises) run away.

They are good cars, but those are known for excessive oil consumption and the price is a bit high. If you are fine with the price and it isn't burning oil, it could be a decent car. Realize if its a CVT they are a bit weak so expect to replace it at 100k miles or so.

I think on a $9k you could buy a more reliable Corolla or Civic, in fact pay less for a similar year. It depends on what you want from the car.

Sounds like a good choice.  The Legacy is an interesting car: kinda boring and utilitarian but not intended for fleet sales.  It’s basically Subaru’s answer to the Camry but less stylish 😉.

The motor should be solid.  CVT should be, also, at that miles; but agree with taking it for an aggressive test drive to know for sure; and I would have the CVT fluid changed at 100,000 miles.

Might be awkward to have a mechanic inspection on a family purchase, but maybe at least borrow a scan tool and plug it in.

Agree with what others have said here. I have a tendency on test drives to drive em like I stole em. If anything is gonna break it’s gonna be then. 🤣
