| Toyota Sienna vs Honda Odyssey | 27Relevance | 5 years ago | Minivanhero | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hey Scotty, I'm in the market for a new minivan. The only ones I am considering are the 2021 Toyota sienna and the 2021 Honda odyssey. What are your thoughts on the new hybrid drivetrain on the 2021 sienna? Do you think I would be better off with the V6 in the Honda for reliability? Thanks! | |||||
| Answer to: 2022 Honda Odyssey or 2022 Toyota Sienna?? | 27Relevance | 5 years ago | Whatchamacallit | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I would go used and get the previous generation Toyota sienna, which as you noted 2020 was the last model year. If you don’t need the vehicle right away, just keep looking. The new (current) generation sienna is only a hybrid and while Toyota makes the best/long last lasting hybrids (relative to other automakers), if you intend to keep the vehicle well past 200,000 miles I would go with the previous generation gas version. The Honda odyssey only comes with the 3.5L V6 which has cylinder deactivation which can potentially wear/out damage the engine over ti ... | |||||

| Honda or Toyota Which is the Best MiniVan | 27Relevance | 5 years ago | Bob815c | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| ... think of a 2018 Honda odyssey EX-L minivan from AutoNation or Chapman Honda in Tucson, Az. I am also considering a 2017 Toyota sienna Limited Premium (from CarMax) or 2018 Toyota sienna XLE from Desert Toyota of Tucson. I know CarMax isn’t the best source for the vehicle, but all the used Minivans are really hard to find in Tucson. Which is the better minivan Honda or Toyota? The 2017 sienna Limited Premium is advertised with 19,000 miles on the odometer is going for about $29,000 and the 2018 sienna XLE is advertised with about 34,000 miles on the o ... | |||||
| Where can I find a good 25-year-old Sienna? | 25Relevance | 2 years ago | cb007 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Been looking at least a year for a good 98'-99' Toyota sienna, but they all seem to be every but where I am. I live in Missouri, so I constantly look on craigslist and facebook, but the older sienna's seem to be in the pacific northwest-California and the East. I usually do my research on Carcomplaints.com before I buy a used car. The 98'-99s' have the least major complaints from customers and I can only spend around $$5,000. Their issues seem to be related to interior/exterior type cosmetic problems ( broken door handles, etc.). Issues I may be able to ... | |||||
| 1st Gen Sienna trans swap? | 25Relevance | 3 years ago | Scottydaman2023 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Aloha, I am wondering if all 1st gen sienna transmissions are interchangeable? I have a 99 sienna, 138k miles And a 2001 sienna, 160k miles Was thinking about moving trans over from 2001 into the 1999, the 2001 needs way more work done and back tax is 1k, the 1999 is legal and needs like no work, but trans is bad. I guess they towed it wrong or something. I also found a 2002 sienna with a good motor and trans on marketplace I might go pick up. That way I can just throw the trans into the 99, and have two running siennas!!!!! But I am seeing two diffe ... | |||||
| Toyota Sienna oil change | 25Relevance | 5 years ago | Herbert | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi Scotty, I have a Toyota sienna 2007, 180,000 miles. The car runs great, it has no issues. I do a lot of highway driving due to my job. Per month I drive 6-8000 miles, 90% highway. What oil should I use - standard Toyota oil or the synthetic oil they sometimes offer? Also, can you let me know if there are any other thing I should pay attention to that applies specifically to the sienna? By the way, the sienna is so popular that my local car dealer sent me two letters so far asking me to sell my sienna to them! Ha, ha, ha, I’m not stupid! Herbert from ... | |||||

| Scotty: I know you have recommended avoiding the Honda odyssey in the past. A coworker just bought a new car and needs to sell his one-owner 2007 Honda odyssey Touring (3.5 V6, auto) with 119, 000 miles. He's a fairly meticulous guy and I think fairly honest, and only has a one car garage and several vehicles. He said he'll take $3,500 for it. I need a daily driver as my Chevy Sonic has 182,000 miles and is nearly spent. Should I buy the odyssey, assuming the test drive goes okay? | |||||

| Check engine light/knock sensor code on 2002 Toyota Sienna LE. Should I still buy it? Help! | 25Relevance | 4 years ago | carolb | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hey folks. Been looking for an older sienna many months. Found one on FB marketplace with 191,000 mi. for $2,800. Looks ok, but owner says the check engine lights been on since 2019 for the knock sensor. He says it drives just fine. Also, he doesn't know when the timing belt was changed last. I'm a lady just trying to find a reliable sienna that's reasonably priced. Love watching Scotty because I learn so much. Should I travel 160 mi to another state to look/drive this sienna? New timing belt and knock sensor I'm figuring to cost about $1,000, so i ... | |||||
| Answer to: Toyota 4-Runner vs Toyota Sienna | 25Relevance | 4 years ago | infinitifxfan | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Well, realize, the 4runner and sienna are 2 completely different vehicles. The 4runner is an RWD-based body-on-frame SUV designed to go adventuring and off-roading. The sienna is an FWD-based Minivan that is designed to give u loads of space, haul stuff, and go on long road trips. It really comes down to what you want and prioritize. If you are not fussy about the fuel economy, you don't mind sacrificing some seats and space, you want the most rugged and adventure-ready SUV that can run forever, buy the 4runner. Otherwise, buy the 2006 sienna that has 101 80 ... | |||||

| Hello, I have a question regarding the toyota sienna. So I am thinking about buying a 2002 toyota sienna with 120k miles for $3,500 (Private Seller). I really want to purchase it and use it as a daily driver, however I have seen many reports on the NHTSA site about random acceleration with the throttle body on toyota siennas in general. These reports are made on the very first model of the siennas as well as models all the way up to 2010. I've seen reports where people are just sitting in the parking lot with their sienna idleing and all of the sudden their ... | |||||
| 2012 Honda Odyssey Blowing Smoke | 25Relevance | 3 years ago | rfitz3 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Scotty, i love your channel! I have a 2012 Honda odyssey w/130k. Owned since new, always change the oil every 5k. Just noticed clouds of smoke when the eco comes on and off. Not every-time but disturbing when it does. I replaced the PCV valve no change. Dealer/stealer said it doesn't have codes or misfires (I knew that too, have a reader) so they sold me a transmission computer flash/update due to the shifting wasn't as smooth as normal. I think the shifting was related to ECO mode not transmission. The odyssey Forum claims VCM is the culprit. I put a VCM muzler on it for now, which keeps the engine from going into ECO mode. I am curious about your feedback of these odyssey's VCM's? Thank you Rob | |||||
| Knock in 2018 Odyssey EX-L Navi 3.5L V6 Engine | 25Relevance | 5 years ago | gsba | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| In May of 2019, I purchased a used 2018 odyssey EX-L Navi with approximately 30,000kms (18,000 miles). It has the 3.5L V6 engine which has been around for a long time. The engine has a knock in the lower end. I didn't notice the knock until after taking delivery of the vehicle. It happens at about 900 to 1500rpm, under light acceleration after the engine has reached operating temperature and is most noticeable when going up a slight incline. It can be reproduced by holding the brake (or parking brake) and pressing lightly on the accelerator. I immediately made an appointment with the Honda dealer. Long story short, they confirmed there was a knock in the lower end of the engine and were willing to fix it, however Honda Canada told them not to do anything to the engine. The (Honda Canada) claimed there was a "fix" coming soon. That was on June 6 2019 and when I last checked with the Honda dealer service department, there is still no fix. I took the van to another Honda dealer and the Service Department there tried to tell me the noise was the direct fuel injection. I questioned them on the diagnosis and eventually the Honda mechanic said "I don't know what's causing it, but it's normal and they all do it". There is a very lengthy thread on an odyssey forum regarding the knock and the dead end that a lot of odyssey owners had come to when trying to get it fixed. If you are interested, their is a link to a recording of the knock in Post #578. For whatever reason, Honda (U.S. and Canada) appears to be dragging their feet on providing a fix for this very annoying problem which has to be damaging our engines. Have you heard of this problem? Do you have any suggestions what we might do? Thanks, gsba | |||||

| ... 4runner that I sold in late 2019 with 225k miles was on the original! My 2005 matrix with 220k miles just lost the alternator about two months ago, and cost me half an hour and $150 to fix, an odyssey will cost a fortune. The odyssey at 100k is already showing it's age, a much older sienna will still be cruising along just fine. | |||||
