| Started a car that was sitting a year or 2 | 16Relevance | 4 years ago | FadedK | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Ok so i recently had to move a 1997 ford thunderbird 4.6L Automatic Transmission with 240,000 miles that had been sitting for a year or 2 (dont know exactly) so i put in a battery and cranked it up. At first it didn't want to start so i gave it some gas and then boom fired up, it ran really ruff at first almost dying out if i didn't keep feeding it gas. Finally it started to idle normally so i decided to drive it around the block a few times, i got around once and the car felt good, then i heard a slight rattling under the car(sounded like a diesel engine) a ... | |||||
| How do I start up a 1980 Ford Fairmont that has been sitting outside for years? | 15Relevance | 3 years ago | Wallum | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I would like to start up my 1980 Ford Fairmont sedan that has been sitting outdoors in South Dakota for 17 years, where the winter tends to be cold and the summer hot. The car has an inline 6-cylinder engine, a one-barrel carburetor, and automatic C4 transmission. When I got the car in 1999, the odometer read about 60,000 miles. Currently, it reads about 140,000 miles. Before storage, it was running well, and I had replaced all the fluids and filters. However, I did not otherwise prepare the car for storage, such as adding a fuel stabilizer. Recently, I did ... | |||||

| 2005 PT Cruiser - Rebuilt Engine Process/Cost | 14Relevance | 5 years ago | virtuadc | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello, We have a PT Cruiser that's been sitting for about 4 years, as it's not operable as there is an issue with the engine cylnders. It's been some time but basically needs a new used or rebuilt engine. To do that, I was wondering what else would be needed on top of the rebuilt engine add considering it's been sitting to get an idea of cost. Rebuilt engine, added parts (from sitting), and labor. Thanks! | |||||
| No start after sitting for months | 15Relevance | 4 years ago | jiaclark | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I have a 1999 Lexus GS 300 that after sitting for a few months won't start. Even after changing the battery, the car won't start, it will only crank and sound like it will start but won't actually start. I have taken it to my mechanic and he checked out multiple parts of the car and replaced them but none of it was the issue. Finally he thought it was the car's ECU. I had a new ECU reprogrammed into the car but it is still running into the same issue. The original code that was showing up with the old ECU was P1300 Igniter Circuit #1 which my mechanic said w ... | |||||
| Starting a Ford Focus that has been sitting for 8 years | 15Relevance | 5 years ago | Code Butcher | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| My uncle left me his 03 Ford Focus that’s been sitting in his garage for the past 8 years. He recently past away and myself being the mechanic/engineer of the family left it to me. It all began a little over 8 years ago. He had diabetes and had part of his foot amputated, he never drove the car again, even though with some work he could have. Anyways, I’m looking over the car and the battery is completely dead. The date on the battery was less than two years after he stop using the car. I managed to recharge it and it seems to be holding a charge. After putt ... | |||||

| ... Me being a 25 yr old woman I ask the tech whats up with my car because two weeks after I need a top off. They say my car is loud. Its old. Its ok. Because I am used to running out of oil and my light cutting on I thought nothing of it just cutting off after I got oil again. Couple days pass my engine light cuts on again. I use my car for work. I’m a delivery driver and personal shopper. It’s embarrassing pulling up to these rich people with this loud earful of a car. So one day I cut the car on and was immediately embarrassed. I get out and look under the ... | |||||

| Air. Fuel. Spark. Those are the basics to get a car going. I would also inspect/change all the fluids, oil, transmission oil, coolant, power steering, brake, especially the gasoline. Inspect the belts and hoses, and change if necessary. Inspect and change the brakes if necessary. I’m sure there is more. I’ve never done it myself, but have flirted with the idea for an old sitting Mazda Tribute. | |||||
| Car Sporadically stalls when coming to a stop | 15Relevance | 3 years ago | MikeFoxx | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| ... most times. Sometimes this leads to the car stalling over 3-6 seconds. Other times it'll sputter and struggle for a bit before catching up and shooting up into the 1000-1,200 rpm range. I've noticed if I come to a gentle stop it's more likely to keep a steady idle. This isn't always the case though. This has been an issue for almost a year but now it's becoming more frequent this summer. What seemed to lead to this was when one day while driving the car suddenly stalled coming to a light. Started up just fine but seemed to be in limp mode for a bit. The car ... | |||||

| ‘07 Avalon hard brake after sitting overnight | 14Relevance | 4 years ago | Jwwiff | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I have an ‘07 Avalon with 179K miles with a push button start - runs and drives great. Within the last year after sitting overnight, the brake pedal is hard to press down - not so much that I can’t start the car but obviously not normal. Once I start the car up, no problems with the brake or braking power. I have changed out the check valve on the vacuum booster but that was not the source of the leak. Is there any other component other than the brake vacuum booster that would cause loss of vacuum overnight. Looking at what it would take to put in anoth ... | |||||
