Hi Scotty,

I've been looking for a project car for a long time now. I found a 1985 Mazda 626. It is a manual, but the car had been standing in the same place for over 10 years. I know the old Mazda's have huge problems like rust and in one video about a Harley motorcycle you said that water cooled engines can be very worn out by just sitting over the years (is this fixable?), but what else should i check before i buy it? The owner said it was his dad's car and he never touched it after his dad died. He doesn't know if it runs etc. He is asking 700$. Is it a good deal? The car only has 111k miles on it.

Wish u a very nice day!

Okay, it's old and it's at forever. Who knows if we'll even run. I would say get a battery and stall it. Bring some starting fluid and see if you can start it. If you can start it and it runs and you can actually drive it by itself and move down the road you could buy it. It's going to need a lot of work probably cuz it's saying a lot of the stuff is rotten. But if it won't start or moving its own power run away

Depends on how much of a project youre looking for.

It probably needs an engine, trans has to be just about shot, probably needs structural repairs, and suspension/ braking components needs servicing.

If thats the level of working youre looking to get into, and like those cars, then why not?

Though I must ask, its not the best looking car. So why a 85 626?

I like old and boxy shaped cars and I drive Mazda since I got my licence. Also this one is old and in the Netherlands where I live, we don't have to pay any taxes over a car that is older than 40 years old.
