| RE: How long can you ignore a jiggle when braking? | 0Relevance | 5 years ago | carowner | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I ended up going to a Mexican place and they only charged me $280 total front and back and the guy resurfaced them instead of insisting that they were at the end of their life. He also didn't claim that anything was leaking like the chain store did. | |||||

| Also resurfacing will only shorten the life. Every time the rotors are resurfaced they only get thinner and become easier and easier to warp | |||||

| ... luck. I would just take the toyota to the shop and get the gasket replaced haha, much cheaper than a crap deal, it certainly would last longer (I think especially if you took care of it well), and the last one I worked on had 330k, I mean the head had to be resurfaced but given that everything was original but still, not bad at all. | |||||

| ... with 90 K and with the 6.7L Diesel. This is a fleet vehicle assigned to me by my company, and recently I was instructed to take it to Les Schwab for a brake service. We were taking them to the dealer for all service and maintenance, but with dealer shortages and slow turnaround times they began looking for alternatives. After the inspection at Les Schwab they informed us that a all-around brake job was needed, which I could sense in driving the vehicle. (Brakes would shake the steering wheel on a downgrade slope and took extra effort when coming to a stop) ... | |||||

| ... leak to hide it). They had the heads resurfaced but no matter how many times I took it to them, the P0303 kept coming up. They pretty much had the vehicle from Sept to December. Things finally fixed and since then the only issues I had were coolant hoses going bad. Well, about 2 weeks ago the engine started doing the weird things again - wouldn't start right away (had to crank the engine several times), white smoke coming out the tail pipe (dealer said they saw the white smoke; I haven't seen it), rough idle, and every once in a while while I am driving ... | |||||

| ... expecting too much.) I have not had a head resurfaced for many years and don't know what current machine shop pricing is like but it would not surprise me at all to find the dealer outsourced the work and paid about 1/2 that, marking it up on your bill. Unfortunately those are pretty lousy cars even by GM standards. Frankly I'd get rid of that thing instead of throwing good money after bad if you're in a position to do so. | |||||

| Merry Christmas Scotty. I'm working on a 2014 town and country 3.6l with just under 100k. The front head was off 4 times and sent to 2 different machine shops to have valves and seats resurfaced and valve length corrected for a misfire. The misfire started on cyl 6 then cyl 4 twice and back to cyl 6. When misfiring, there is a suction at the tail pipe and a puffing sound from the intake. Replacing lifters, switching plugs, coils, and injectors doesn't change anything. Scan tool shows no misfires, no C.E.L. and no codes, but it's obviously misfiring. I'm out ... | |||||

| Hey Alan, thanks for the info. I recently did the clutch on this car, bought everything from Sachs, Luk, and Bilstein which are OEM brands I think. The only thing I didn't change was the flywheel, since it actually was in good condition I just had it resurfaced (probably was not a good idea) lol. So maybe it is the flywheel, I'm going to have to check that out. | |||||

| If you're going to replace it, replace everything - clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing and pilot bearing. Check the clutch slave cylinder for smooth operation. Get the flywheel resurfaced if it looks burnt or cracked. Tighten down the pressure in stages to the proper torque. Lubricate the clutch arm pivot joint liberally. If you get the flywheel resurfaced, make sure to use Blue Locktite and torque to specifications. Most clutch kits come with a centering tool to line up the splines of the trans input shaft and clutch disc. If you can't ge ... | |||||
