| We bought our 2018 Nissan nv3500 for our family of 9 used with 55,000 miles and the remaining factory warranty in 2021. For the past 3 years we have intermittently been dealing with a check engine light for the P0015 camshaft B position timing over-retarded error code. Symptoms are when accelerating between 3-4000 RPM the engine gets “stuck” in that rpm range and jerks until you let off the gas and it shifts down. Otherwise driving is normal. Warranty has expired and both Nissan and other mechanics can’t figure it out. Solenoids have been changed and the lig ... | |||||

| Hey Scotty love all the videos and one of your biggest fan. What are your thoughts on nissan 5.6L v8 motor and transmission because I'm thinking about buying a nv3500 hd passenger van. Anything major I should look out for or expect? All your advice has made me became a better mechanic. Thanks for all the great things you do and wish you nothing but the best. | |||||

| Either a Ford Transit with a 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 mated to a 6 speed automatic (most are 10 speed, avoid those) Or a Nissan nv3500 with a 5.6L V8 mated to a 7 speed automatic. Personally I'd go with the Nissan but beware of the fuel economy - it does like 13 mpg. Additionally consider a Sprinter, Crafter, and the Chevrolet Express. The latter can be found with a 6.6L V8 DuraMax diesel and a decent 6 speed automatic - it's also a very nice option. I think you probably can find a good 6.6L V8 Chevy Express / GMC Savana for cheaper than any other panel van. | |||||

| It’s a good condition for the year it has a little rust by the door panel, but I have an 1988 c1500 with the same problem that I took care of. But my biggest concern is that I haven’t heard much of the nv3500 so if you have any information about that type of transmission it would be help full. | |||||

| My neighbor's remote unlocks my van, 2016 Nissan nv3500, 65,000 miles, automatic. Don't say it is impossible, he did it right in front of my, and he is no magician. I want to disable this function altogether, I always use my key to unlock my van. The dealer, and the car manufacturer, are no help at all. Thank you. | |||||

| I'd be hesitant as well. From what you're being told you basically have catastrophic engine failure but you haven't said anything about the engine knocking or burning oil which is what I would expect if metal chunks and debris from inside the engine were falling into the oil pan and oil pressure was almost nil. Searching online for problems with this model it doesn't appear that engine failure is at all common. Unless that thing has been serious abused, needing a new engine at 55,000 miles sounds ludicrous. It doesn't pass the smell test. For something this serious and expensive you really need another opinion from a mechanic willing and able to do a thorough diagnosis. (Unfortunately those seem to be few and far between.) The P0015 code has a number of potential causes, none of which in and of themselves indicate the need for a new engine. | |||||
