I have over 150,000 miles now in an 09 Accord. Should I replace the timing belt to be safe? I need to keep this running as long as possible.
Also, It’s been burning oil a lot recently, so I replace the PVC valve, but it hasn’t changed the oil loss...thoughts? Burns at least 1-2 quarts in 1000 miles.
I believe that 2.4L engine in the 2009 Accord has a metal timing chain. As long as you change the engine oil regularly, that chain should last just as long as the engine.
For the oil burning, you may just have to live with it. The piston rings are probably worn out so the only way to fix that it to replace those (which is very expensive). Change the oil every 3K-4K miles and check the oil level once a week or so.
Is your engine a 4 or 6 cylinder?
4 cylinder. Sorry
I think your car has a chain, not a belt. It looks like your engine had bad piston rings that were the subject of an extended warranty from Honda, which explains your excessive oil consumption.
Thanks guys!
