Hello Scotty!! I am in the market for a large SUV to haul my family of 4 around. I am looking at 19 Sequoia Platinum with 30k miles for $61k and also considering a new 21/22 Tahoe for a little more money. My goals are reliability, ride comfort, and strongest resale value. I realize that i am buying used in a premium market and am OK with that as I'll be selling my '14 Lexus GX in this same market. Thanks for any guidance you may have!! 🙂
Sequoia will last WAY longer than that GM made garbage.
Sequoia would be the best
Get the Toyota. You got a Lexus and you already know how reliable Toyota products are.
First of all the Sequoia without a doubt; they're very reliable. But you are saying a 2019 Sequoia with 30k miles is $61k, and just looked on Toyota's website and the same Platinum trim brand new is $66,550. So since you were considering a Tahoe for a higher price then just get a new Sequoia; used prices are ridiculously high. Or you can get other trims for even less than $61k.
Thanks FJ - i believe you're seeing the price for the 2WD Platinum which is all that Toyota has available now, along with the 2WD base model SR%. The 4WD option adds about $3k which is what i'm looking at. so, even if i could get one brand new, it would be about 8k more. 8k less for the used seems about right for 2-3 years of depreciation
Well since you hadn't specified whether you are looking at 2WD or 4WD I just went with the base (initial option). Used car prices are higher these days than before covid. Personally I think giving up on some options and instead getting a lower trim 4WD but new is better choice if one plans on keeping the vehicle for a long time. I bought mine new in 2004 and it's still driving without any issues. Again this is personal opinion.
I faced the a very similar decision a year ago (Jan 2021). Was looking to replace my '08 Honda Pilot which served me well for 190,000 miles and 12.5 years. Wanted something bigger. Narrowed it down to the Sequoia or Tahoe. Had always been a Toyota/Honda guy (owned a Camry, 4Runner, Civic, Pilot, Acura TL & TLX) but the Sequoia looked dated and hasn't been refreshed for a decade, and the Tahoe was 'all new'. Test drove both and liked the Tahoe better. Wife even said, are you sure you want to buy a Chevy? I went with my heart found a Tahoe spec'd the way I wanted and pulled the trigger in Mar 2021. A year later, I'm still in love with my Tahoe. Love the way it drives, handles, looks, etc. I'm at 13,000 miles now, and no issues. Though I do admit I have a little anxiety with everything I'm seeing on forums about lifter issues. Once the 2023 Sequoia comes out, I may consider trading my Tahoe for a new Sequoia...I know the new one is a turbo V-6 which could have issues down the line. I just can't do the dated Sequoia body style and interior. Good luck whatever you decide. {black}:scared:
