My 1990 Toyota Camry Needs A/C Coolant. It is supposed to use R-2 coolant. I live in California. Is there any way to get it re-charged? Apparently a federal law outlawed R-2 coolant. I am stuck. Thanks for any ideas.

You can have the system converted to run on the new stuff.

There are places where you can still get R12 refrigerant but it is very expensive. You need a certification to buy it in the U.S. (It's a simple open-book certification - I'm certified to buy R12 and I'm no pro.)

You say you're in the Peoples' Republic so if you're in the southern part of the state you might be able to have it charged with R12 across the border in Mexico, but the standard procedure for those old systems is to convert to R134. This has to be done right or the AC system will be ruined, so if you're not familiar with working on air conditioning you should take it to a good independent mechanic (not a stealership or chain) to have the conversion done.
