1993 nissan maxima SE abs , battery and brake warning light on dash

I have a 1993 nissan maxima SE model, ( manual transmission 5 speed) and as I was driving all 3 warning lights came on: the ABS, Brake and Battery.  I have a new battery, the brake fluid was full.

When I stopped at a red light and was in neutral, the lights went out.  Then, when I started driving again, the lights came back on .  Same thing happened at the next light.  Then when I was almost at the garage, the lights went out and did not come back on for the next couple days.

Now they came back on as a came to a stop, and car was in neutral.  Any ideas, what to check first?

Check your battery cables, clamps and grounds.

I assume you already load tested the battery and alternator. I would check the battery cables and connections. If it checked out, you might need to check the speed sensors.

mechanic tested the battery, said I was charging at 17 amps, so he said I needed a new alternator. I had that installed and the 3 lights came back on after i drove home. I am reluctant to go back to him,

17 amp?
Did he check the speed sensors?

no

I will have the speed sensors checked? what do you look for there? and how is that resolved?

You need a higher level scan tool to check the sensor reading.

As long as your brake and battery lights are on you have a charging system concern wether over or under charging but at 17 volts that is way to high and would require an alternator due to the voltage regulator being internal. And it’s not uncommon to get bad replacement alternators . It’s unfortunate but it happens pretty commonly

Do you mean 17 volts?

yes, is 17 volts too high? And would I need to replace the alternator for that reason alone?

17 volts is too high. The voltage regulator in the alternator could be defective.

Thanks for all the helpful comments. Still investigating.
