1998 Honda Accord Sputtered and Stalled

hello Scotty and community,

Last friday afternoon at around 13:40 I was on my way to work and my car (1998 Honda Accord LX 2.3L 4 cylinder VTEC, ~187,000 miles, automatic transmission) started to shake a lot and stalled out after coming to a stop to make a left turn at an intersection. I tried restarting my car a few times and it wouldn't budge before I had to start it again and give it some more gas and rev it past idle to about approximately 2,000-2,500 RPM or more to get it going but the engine would stall out right after I let go of the accelerator pedal to idle. I called my boss to let him know I was late and told him what happened, luckily he was very nice to offer to help me tow my car to our company's maintenance shop nearby with his personal truck using a tow chain, I had to sit inside my car to steer and use handbrake while being towed. I was really close to the airport where I worked at so that was good. My boss gave me a ride to inside the airport apron to clock in after he and a mechanic helped push my car to a parking spot in front of their maintenance shop

Later that night after I finished my shift at work my boss took me back to my car at their maintenance shop to further attempt to troubleshoot my car. All we did was plug in two different OBD-2 scan tools and no DTC or trouble codes popped up, everything appeared normal according to my car's ECU computer module. Then we opened the hood and started revving the engine up to 2,000+ RPM for like 30-40 seconds, and for some reason my car was able to come back to idle and stay idle without stalling out, as if my car fixed itself. I called a friend to come and helped me and he helped drive my car home and I drove his car back to my house. The following monday which was a few days ago from today I took my car to my local mechanic to have it looked at, he said everything seemed fine, might have been something with the idle control sensor acting up. His suggestion to me was identical to what my manager did at work, mechanic said to depress and hold onto both gas and brake pedal, rev the engine past idle to 2,000-2,500 RPM and put the car into gear launching it forward, if this happens again.

Basically what I am asking is, should I be worried or concerned about this with my car? Should I replace the idle control sensor as soon as possible or could it be something else that caused my car to sputter and stall out? Would this be a big or expensive job to replace and fix the idle control sensor or whatever part caused my car to stall out? Or should I just keep driving my car as it is and not worry too much about it? What do you (all) suggest? Thanks.

Change the IAC valve and clean the MAF sensor and throttle body. There are couple of things that worth doing if they have not been done recently: cleaning the injectors and also adjusting the valves.

Ok thanks for the info. yeah I'm thinking of changing the Idle air control valve as the main culprit

Has the fuel filter been changed lately, say in the last 23 years?
