2.4L Honda Accords

I'll probably be in the market for a used sedan or coupe to replace my 2001 Regal within the next year. My top choices are Toyota and Honda with a 4 cylinder engine. I don't want the smaller options, so that rules out Corollas and Civics. I'd prefer a manual transmission and those seem to be pretty tough to come by in Camrys. That leaves me with the 2.4L Accord. My target is something with around 100K miles on it that can be had for around $8K (or less). I'd like to think I could get at least 300K miles out of it. I thought that the Honda 2.4L engine was pretty solid, but I heard on another thread that 2.4L engine is known for oil consumption. From more research it sounds like they've had a problem with the front main seal.

So based on your experiences, are there some 2.4L Hondas to avoid and others that are good - and which are which? Which ones could I get 300K miles out of?

Check out this site for problems with Honda Accords reported by owners, ruling out automatic transmission issues as you will get a manual:

For the Camry, avoid the 2007-2009 years with the 4 cylinder as they have engine issues and oil burning. Stick to the 2003-2006, 2010-2017 years.

Get a Camry with Standard transmission. You should look around, they are not plenty but you can find them if you search.

Thanks. I'll look, but they sure are hard to find.

Try looking at an older Honda Accord , maybe 2003-2007 - these are much easier to find with a stick than Camrys. I think the newer Honda 2.4L engines had some issues with oil consumption, but these older ones ones with port injection seem to be quite reliable.
