Hey Scotty,
My brother just bought a rusty 2000 Lexus es300 with 204 000km (127 000miles) for 1500 Canadian dollars
it's in pretty bad condition it leaked power steering fluid so we got it checked out by a mechanic and he said that it needed a new hose but while checking the vehicle he saw that there was holes in the rusty rear subframe membrane of the car and declared that it was very dangerous to drive on.The mechanic quoted me 200$ to fix power steering fluid and 1000$ to replace the rear subframe membrane (labor and parts) While I was cleaning out the trunk of the car I also found a big hole in it allowing me to see a brake cable that should probably be patched. It would be a a shame if I got rid of it because a Lexus with 127 000 miles is barely broken in but then again it's severely rust and would require a lot of dough to make it safe (the car engine is smooth). My brother doesn't want to do anything with this car anymore after learning about the rust under the car and gave it to me.
My question is should I keep this unfortunately rusted fine piece of Japanese engineering or should I get rid of it ?
If YES
Should I try and save money by buying remanufactured rear subframe membrane ?
and should I change the transmission fluid after 127 000 miles ? (I don't wanna damage it)
If NO
Do you know places that sells common sense I would like to give some to my brother before he goes to buy a rusty vehicle ?
*Waves arms furiously in the air*
Get rid of it!
Not worth it.
