The clutch slave cylinder on a my 2001 Honda Civic EX (260K miles) is leaking and the clutch won't actuate.
Any tips on replacement process? Slave is very accessible right in front and on top, but the master is down under the brake booster. There's one fairly primitive YouTube video where the guy goes in from the underneath via the inner fender. Surprisingly there is little else in DYI instruction for clutch hydraulics for 7th gen Civics out there. I did this replacement on a 2009 Honda Fit and that involved removing the cowling, but otherwise not too difficult.
Also, looking for tips on bleeding. Should I prime the master cylinder before installing it, or bleed the master in place before connecting it to the line, or just hook it all up and try to bleed it all at once at the slave end? I have a partner who can pump the pedal while I open and close the bleeder and top off the fluid.
After shopping around I decided to go with the OEM Honda parts which I ordered from an online wholesale-price dealer (Majestic). The slave was replaced about 8 years ago by a shop with an aftermarket brand. Eight years is decent service but none of the brands I researched had consistently good reviews. Some reviewers complained of leaks in a short (< 2 years) time period, others said the fittings weren't quite machined right. THe OEM pair cost $150+90 as compared to $60+35 (or so), but I'd rather not worry about having to do this again anytime soon.
Watch my video replacing leaking clutch cylinder Scotty it's not that much fun but it can be done
