Hey Scotty, we recently bought a 2001 Toyota Solara 3.0L convertible with 140k on it. We love the car, but I’ve ran across a small issue. We don’t drive it much, so the other day I started it up and let it idle for about 30 minutes. When I went to pull it back into the garage the battery light was on, and the battery was dead. I immediately checked the battery terminals, and they were loose, I went to my local Toyota dealer and bought new terminal ends, charged the battery, same result. Battery is less than a year old, and checked good. I had the alternator tested and it tested bad, so I replaced it and the belt. The alternator is new, not a reman. The voltage is better, around 13.5 volts at idle and 13.98 at 2k rpm with a load. I let it idle for an hour with a load, and the battery is dead again. The battery doesn’t drain when the car is off. Can you please advise me on what to check next? Thanks Brian from Florida!
You probably want to charge the battery at least overnight (12 hours). One hour of charging a dead battery isn't going to get it done.
