Scotty, my 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0L V6 4wd automatic transmission with approx 310,000 miles is running really rough, engine misfire, lacks power. Local tech diagnosed #3 cylinder bad valve, no compression, bad plug wires. Starting cost is $2252.00 to service 1 cylinder head, not counting machine shop charges. Starter replaced last October, automatic transmission rebuilt almost 2 years ago. Minor body damage (deer collision) and rust. Drove good until now. Owned since 2004 with complete service record. Requesting advice on how to get the most out of what remains. Don't really have the means to part it out myself. KBB.com values it at $271.00 trade and $1613.00 private party. Have very few contacts to consult, so decided to start with you. Thanks in advance.
Donate it to a charity and take the tax write off. It might just help someone out.
With current used car prices so high, you may be offered a better than KBB price on a trade, or you could try selling it as a parts vehicle.
