I live on a hill and when I get snowed in my friend drives up the yard sometimes through well over a foot of snow and picks me up at my door, saving me the $90 it costs to plow and salt my drive. Great car!
Last year he died and left me this wonderful car.
Its radio didn't work so I took it to a dealer and was told it would cost $2500 to replace because the amount under the seat was corroded. I took it to a reputable auto radio repair shop and they said the radio was proprietary but they could put in a new radio and amp for $1000. So I took the deal.
Then the transmission went out. that was $5000.
Two weeks ago the car was grinding when I touched the brakes. I noticed there was something that looked like rust colored paint sprayed all over the passenger side of the car. I'd made an appointment with a shop to fix the brakes and the day before I spent 3 hours with rubbing compound polishing the "rusty paint" off the car.
The mechanic walked me around the car on a lift. He had the wheels off to show me the the brake pads we squished and pretty much gone. The rotors were busted, scraped and pitted. The rust paint was from a broken break line. Replacing the whole assembly on 4 wheels $1700
So that's it for now. The air conditioner doesn't work.
WHen I open the hood I have to prop it open. (a rubber hammer is great for this, btw.)
There's a dent just under the passenger tail light i wanted to get fixed when I first hit title to the car. And I need it to have a trailer hitch. Question is, should I keep going with this car now that I have so much money in it or cut my losses and find another GT470 with everything working?
I'd have been out of it when the transmission went out.
