2003 Nissan Xtrail going intermittently into a limp mode

Hey there. Angela Smith here from New Zealand. Asking on behalf of my elderly parents. Vehicle starting to go into a limp mode. No code/s coming up. Was told it could be carbon build up and to give it some curry. Didnt work. An auto sparky suggested transmission (it's an auto). Really? Hmmm.  Seems to be sporadic but getting worse.  Can anyone please shed some light?

Is it actually in limp home mode (aka reduced power etc.), with a warning light in the cluster?

Or is it just going sluggish with no other indications?

If there's a trouble light, then the computer has to give a reason. You might just need a more sophisticated scanner.

it could be a number of things, so start with the basics, like check the plugs and ignition system, fuel pressure etc.

Bad transmission is a possibility too. Is the fluid up full, and clean?

Sorry meant to say there's no dash light coming up.  Yes reduced power for a short time then returns to normal but is starting to happen more regularly.  Probably once or twice a day from what I can gather.  Car runs low on power like a limp mode.  No one here seems to be able to diagnose issue
