Things to look out for in my 2003 Toyota Avalon

Hey Scotty,

I bought. Used 2003 TOYOTA Avalon XLS V6 with 197k miles. I have all the maintenance records because the car has been passed down through family. I know the timing belt/chain and water pump were changed at 91k miles. Does it have a timing belt or chain and should I change it? Is it an interference engine? The car is in great shape and runs like a top, makes no noises etc other than a few minor interior rattles no engine noise. Are there any other known issues that I should have checked out by a guy like you?

  Thanks  - Mike

It has a rubber timing belt. Time to replace it again.

It appears to be a non-interference engine.

I agree with @ChuckTobias. It has a rubber timing belt that needs to be replaced, along with the water pump.
And it is definitely a non-interference engine.
Scotty said in one of his videos that he thinks that this 1MZ-FE engine is one of the best Toyota ever made.
That’s great that someone has kept it well maintained. Congratulations!

You might want to consider also replacing the crankshaft seal and the camshaft seals at this mileage.
