Hey Scotty, I have a 2003 Toyota Tacoma 4 cylinder pickup with 388,000 miles on it. I bought the pickup used when it was a few years old with 70,000 miles on it. I saw all of the maintenance records at the used car dealership when I bought it and it was incredibly well maintained by the original owner. After I bought it, I did a very good job regularly maintaining the vehicle and it didn't have a single mechanical problem until it got to 300,000 miles on it. After that I have replaced the radiator, the alternator, the starter, and replaced the engine. I also replaced the CV joints that snapped, two times. So far it hasn't had any transmission issues as I have regularly maintained the vehicle. Recently the check engine light came on and I took the vehicle to the auto mechanic and they told me the vehicle very likely needs a new head gasket. In my area it will cost between $1200-$2000 to replace. To get around this I put Blue Devil brand head gasket sealant in it and it has stopped the minor overheating of the vehicle and it seems to drive just fine on streets and even on the highway. The check engine light though is still on. What do you recommend? Should I just continue to drive it around? Should I drop even more money in the pickup and have it fixed since I can still get $5000 for it? Or should I get a whole new vehicle? You are amazing Scotty, I sure would appreciate your help! -Donnie
Really depends what you want if you can get five grand for it you can find a replacement vehicle that's better shape I do that but if you can't I'd fix it
Who do you think is going to give you 5 grand for a truck with a blown head gasket?
