2005 Nissan 350z Camshaft Position Sensor Troubles

Hey Scotty,

I’ve been searching the forums and various videos on YouTube and still can’t seem to fix this problem.

I have a 2005 Nissan 350z with 141k miles, I mainly use this car to commute to college an hour a day.

Was commuting to school and my car randomly shut off on the road, scanned it and had a P0340 Code for the Camshaft Position Sensor Bank 1 (Passenger Side). This is the first time my car has ever had any engine trouble.

I replaced it with an 2 Different OEM Sensors. The car starts, but it doesn’t just start right up anymore, it takes a while to crank on the first try. To add on to that, the Check Engine lights still appear after awhile.

I have tried erasing the codes and resetting the car’s ECU, but they still pop up. I tried replacing the other sensor (Bank 2 Drivers Side) and it is still there, and now I have another code P0345.

Other than all the lights and long starting, the car seems to run okay. I do notice it jolts a little bit here and there randomly as I go from a stop/brake though.

Is there something else I should try replacing? Maybe get a tuneup/replace my sparkplugs, or even my CRANKSHAFT sensor? I’m really lost here and don’t know what to do. Any help appreciated!

Thanks,

Dustin

Sad but true. If a brand new OEM sensor doesn't fix it, it usually means the timing chains have stretched and will eventually need replacement which is a very expensive job. Any good mechanic could tell you that in a few minutes of just looking at data and see if the chain has stretched

Do you think it could be a wiring issue? I’ve heard this as well that it could very well just be the wiring harness / connectors being loose.

Could this also be the case before I spend hundreds on my timing chain?
