Thoughts on a 2005 Toyota Sequoia with a 4.7 interference engine? If timing belt was changed recently is it an OK vehicle otherwise? It's a consignment deal with 212,000 miles. Sure wish it had a chain instead. Local Houston 1 owner vehicle since new. $3900 out the door includes fees and TT&L. Small used car dealer says they used the "fancy scan tool", as Scotty puts it, for the live data and all looks good. He says he and his main mechanic are previous master certified Toyota mechanics. I know people do lie but he does seem genuine. I did drive it and it seems fine. No missing, shifts fine, tracks well, AC and heat are great, exhaust is clean. I will take it to another shop to verify the data and condition before final purchase. Scotty, you moved too early! I would have brought it to you. Can you recommend someone on the north side of Houston? Understand if you don't do that.
That's not a bad deal if it checks out. I would put a new belt on it anyway just to be safe because you can replace the water pump and idler pulley at the same time. You can never be too safe with an interference engine.
I just got an update. Dealer says there is a "gates sticker" on the vehicle. Says it shows belt was changed at 180k. He is going to check with the owner in the morning to make sure.
