Car warm up time

I have a 2018 Honda Accord with the 1.5 turbo engine, 30k miles. I live in Utah where it’s cold and always let the engine warm up before driving (10-20mins remote started). It seems it won’t warm up til actually driven. Is this typical for colder climates or newer Hondas?

Both to be honest. I have a 2020 Accord 2.0T Sport. It takes a good bit of driving for it to reach temperature.

Modern engines are very efficient at staying cool. Combine that with a cold climate, and you have your answer.

Good to know, thanks mod_man!

Well, … I live in Canada, and most folks - although they all have electric block heaters installed (Toyota, for example, will not sell you a Toyota without mandatory electric heater), never plug them in, … and cars start! Some run them for a bit, … say 2-3 minutes max when it’s really, really cold - like a week ago, -35 deg. C we faced, than drive away slowly, until dash gauge start moving. After that, … pedal to the metal.

Anyway, … these days engines are designed with a very sophisticated cooling systems: electric variable volume coolant pumps, electric thermostats, optimizing control valves diverting coolant as directed by sensors, … variable red lines ( max revs are limited but climbing up as engine warms up). Variable oil pumps with variable pressures. In fact it is recommended that you start driving as soon as engine fires and drops down to the idle. And so, long warm ups are not recommended, …

Just to add to that: here in some areas of the states, it is actually illegal to idle your vehicle. When it is cold the police will drive through neighborhoods and write citations for it. Crazy I know, but I didn't make the law...just wanted to share.

Yet, … yet most of the mid-range models and up - Toyotas, Hondas, for example - now days seem to include a factory installed, no delete option, remote starters. In fact, remote starters are being advertised these days as main features, … relegating Apple CarPlay and Android AutoPlay to the secondary and tertiary position. Crazy time, indeed.
