2005 Subaru Outback XT Limited Wagon is leaking coolant from exhaust

Hi everyone,

I have a 2005 Subaru outback XT limited wagon with 177k+ miles. Last while changing car's oil a mechanic told me it has head gasket leak. Because the oil was looking like a milkshake.

Then I went to a nearby Subaru dealership and flush carr's coolant and implement blue devil by the experts from the Subaru dealership. They also replaced my thermostat at that time. After then around one and half months, the car was driving great.

Suddenly a couple of days ago it started to overheat. Then I checked that the coolant level is very low. After pouring coolant and starting the car I discovered that this is dropping a water-like liquid (most probable is the coolant) from the joint of the two exhausts out.

Now my questing is, do you think my head gasket leak is back? Or a new issue is appended with the head gasket issue?

One point to be noted, the day it starts overheating was extremely cold. The temperature was roughly 0°F or -18°C.

For reference, I have also made a video available here.

Thank you all in advance.

"Blue Devil" like any sealer is at best a temporary band-aid and may not work at all. I don't know what kind of "experts" they have at that stealership but if they told you that was a long-term fix they were either lying or imbeciles. Without a doubt your head gasket problem was never fixed in the first place and it's back now.

Thanks for the reply. Those people asked 8000$ to fix my head gasket. Then I tried this solution with their help. They did not tell that it would be a long-term fix. However, my expectation was it would help at least for a few months.

I know that Scotty prefers the Bar's Leak product for that kind of temporary fix, but chances are it would not have worked any differently than the Blue Devil. You might try to find an independent mechanic for a better price on a proper repair, but it's still going to be expensive (maybe half the dealer price) no matter how you look at it. Probably not worth it given the car's age unless it is in unusually good condition otherwise.

Yes. Does not worth it. I was simply trying to continue with this car until the end of 2022. By that time hopefully, I would be able to manage money for a new car.

$8000 to fix it is criminal when you can get a completely rebuilt engine from AutoZone, #712E, with a warranty for $3525.99.  Maybe $1k for installation.

Most of the #712E rebuilt engines cost nearly $4500. I have not found any at $3525.99. Even though I get one at $3500, spending $4500 more on this car simply does not worth.

Then you haven't looked at the AutoZone website. They have them for $3525.99 as stated above.  If it's not worth it, then drive it till it blows up.  Your choice.

Probably you told about this one: https://www.autozone.com/powertrain/engine/p/nutech-remanufactured-long-block-engine-713b/252468_0_0

The Autozone site is telling me it does not fit my vehicle. Engines that fit my vehicle according to the AutoZone site are all $4000+.
