Aloha from Hawaii Scotty!
I bought a 2006 BMW 330Ci convertible last November for $1,500 with 132,000 miles. And I have to admit that I really like it! It was a one owner vehicle and in really great condition. It has the entire service record of being serviced at my local BMW dealership as well. My S.O.P.’s whenever I buy a used vehicle is to thoroughly service it, and I did. The only difficulty I had was getting it up high enough to get under! Anyway, my question is this. I changed oil using Amazon Basic Full Synthetic High Mileage 05w-30 along with a new filter. I also replaced the automatic transmission (GM made) fluid with Valvoline MaxLife. Along with a new transmission filter and gasket. I also replaced the rear open differential fluid with Valvoline full synthetic 75-90 gear oil. I did not use any BMW fluid or gear oil. I plan to change the engine oil/filter every 5,000 miles. What is your thoughts on my not using the recommended BMW products? So far no leaks and the car just plain works and drives great!
Thank you Scotty!
P.S. My daily driver is a Toyota Camry and a Toyota Tacoma. The BMW is just a weekend toy.

No those oils are perfectly fine and as long as it's a toy your other cars will serve as useful transportation that's dependable
As long as the fluid specifications from your owner’s manual match the specifications on the back of the container, you’re good to go. For the transmission, I’d generally use OEM specific fluid.
