RKE module failed again

My 2006 Highlander keyless entry stopped working. I traced the fault down to the receiver. Since a new receiver is in the $600-$1000 range, I bought one from a salvage yard. I installed it and had no trouble programming it to accept my fobs. The problem is, after a week of working flawlessly, it stopped working. A quick test with a multi-meter shows an open circuit across the power leads. My question is this: Is there anything in the control module that can kill the unit? It receives 12 volts from the ECU. Or is this just an unfortunate coincidence? This is not the first keyless receiver I have replaced on a Toyota, but it is the first that failed a week later. I hate to search out another receiver module just to have it die. 2.4 engine, 191,000 miles, purchased new.

Generally there aren't unfortunate coincidence. I would assume somewhere there is an electrical short to short it out the part you just put on. So test all the wiring and of course the wiring shows full continuity and no shorts. It could be in the computer module system.
